9500ix in BRZ

Does anyone have one of these (not hardwired)? I'm trying to figure out what cord will reach to the center console without stretching and getting in the way. I tried my boyfriend's 9500ix with the cord that comes with it and it's just too short and awkward. Pics would be great. Thanks!

Use the outlet in the glove box. Or hardwire using an invisicord. Takes 10 minutes.

OMG, that is the stealthiest 12v ever! I seriously thought it was an FR-S only feature because I've seen people mention it on the forums but couldn't find it even after I cleaned out my glove box. I just Googled some pictures and then went out with a flashlight and found the damn thing. So that's a great solution, lol.

Get a flashlight, empty your glove box and really get your face in there. Top right corner.

I debated hard wiring but my boyfriend has had his window busted out twice to steal the same style radar detector (second time he just had the clip in his window) so I don't really want any wires hanging out on my dash. Plus I'm terrified of breaking something. I can only handle pretty foolproof DIY.

But I will answer you honestly this time. I have installed these detectors a couple times and run a 9500ix in my camry and the Escort 9500ci in my FR-s and love it!

Option A ($$): You could possibly mount the radar detector behind the mirrow limiting the visability inside and outside. **it shouldn't be as noticeable from the outside with proper adujstment but remember with putting a radar detector too high an impeed on the sensitivity of Laser (light) but NOT radar. Buy the smart Direct Wire SmartCord cord and wire it into your dome light OR run it down your driveside piller to your fuse box and put an instant fuse add. You can mount the smart box and indicator light in a convenent location for an easy mute and indicator. You can put an optional [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Littelfuse-FHM2BP-In-Line-Fuseholder-Protective/dp/B000COA31K"]mini inline fuse[/ame] if you decide to connect it in the dome light (maybe mount the smart box in the ceiling too).

Option B ($): Buy an inline fuse and regular [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Littelfuse-FHM2BP-In-Line-Fuseholder-Protective/dp/B000COA31K"]direct wire cord[/ame]. You can do the same as option A and wire it into your dome light. Leave enough wire to put your radar detector in the same location you have been or in the middle of your windshield. This will allow you to remove the 9500ix when in a "shady" location that you think may hinder its safety.

Option C ($$$): Buy the Smart Radar (9500ci ($$$$) if you want laser defense) and do an install that will allow you to hide both the radar and display in your own areas. Pretty clean install and nice. Will cost more of course.

**Check out my install form later next week on my 9500ci install. I haven't written it yet but I have had a few form members asking about it. Works like a champ. Hope this helps

@shiro,

thats the exact location of my detector!(8500 x50 black)

Op, its hardwired into the domelight/headliner. If you pick up a separate cord(and suction cup), you can just swap detectors back and forth from cars without having to mess with the 12v everytime. Plus where you're in a sketchy area, you can easily remove it. When I take my detector out, there is about 2-4 inches of wire that can easily be tucked into the headliner, so no one would know its there.

Unfortunately the "sketchy area" is apparently our condo parking lot . It's crazy because we live in a nice area. I honestly think it's some kid that did it both times, probably for personal/friend's use, because this is definitely not a high crime area. I will need to remove it when I'm at work too because that IS sort of a sketchy area (right on metro line). So I think I'm just going to get a straight cord so it will run more smoothly into the glove box and be super easy to grab and go whenever I leave the car. Thanks for the advice guys. Also nice dog you have there Shiro

I love seeing threads like this where people are like "Wait there's a 12v in the glovebox!? OMG I just found it!) It's just amazing how many people still don't know and I love that we keep informing new owners about this nice little secret
