Escort 9500ix / iPad (3rd Gen) Installed w/ RAM Mount

Hey guys. I have had a couple people ask me about my setup. I'm coming from an FJ Cruiser that always had a computer or tablet mounted in the vehicle. Comes in handy sometimes.

So what can be seen here is the:
RAM Mount

I support RAM just because I've used their equipment in a variety of vehicles to include a HMMWV. The universal arm can be utilized with a variety of different products. I could mount my iPad mini there as well. To reduce vibration, I pushed the rod against the side of the center console. I could have also drilled in a bracket to the console, but it doesn't move around enough to warrant that in my opinion.

iPad

Definitely not done with this setup. Just verified that with a power splitter the iPad will charge while streaming Pandora and running the Escort Live application (utilizes GPS). I will probably find a way to add some USB ports permanently as long as I can mount them in a clean fashion. Like a lot of people I hope there will be some improvements made to the Bespoke app.

9500ix and Live Application

I felt like I needed the radar for the longer drivers. I always like to maintain the highest level of situational awareness possible.

The Live application is pretty nice. It really depends on other people to strengthen the alerts. I contribute to the notifications when I can. If it believes that a radar hit is actually a threat, it will automatically add the strike to the map. Red light cameras and speed trap databases are in the database as well. In our trip to Austin with the Houston 86 club, it identified two locations with officers utilizing radar. It was spot on. Not too many false alerts.

The rear view mirror mount is pretty nice even though it doesn't let me flip the mirror down. My dark rear window tint prevents me from ever doing this anyways.

I mounted the mute/report button in the little slot in front of the shifter. It's perfectly accessible while driving.

-----------------------------

If anyone wants to know how I wired this up please let me know. I'll add some more information to this thread. We do not sell any of these products.

Very Nice and Interesting Setup! Aside from the ipad, this is pretty much what I was planning building, but with much less wires and Utilizing the Nexus 7. A few questions:

1- When you say stream Pandora, do you have the ipad paired with the BT of the stock Head Unit + Escort live (which also requires BT)? I ask this because i was curious to know if i could have the Nexus 7 paired with the Escort Live BT + Head Unit BT to stream Audio....AND + utilize the OBD2 Sensor for "Torque" app. If you can confirm this i would greatly appreciate it. I am currently waiting for my 7 + bracket/ mounts + OBD2 sensor to arrive. I know that you can "pair" multiple devices....but can it be used simultaneously. I hear the newer version BT 2/ 3 and 3+ is supposed to be able to achieve this?

2 - Did you direct wire the Escort? If so, did you use an empty AUX fuse instead of combining it with Radio/ HU like all the videos on YouTube suggests? My only concern is that it (radio) may draw away power from the 9500 if I turn volume up. It may not be as bad with the stock unit...but i am looking to upgrade Audios much later down the road.

3 - location of the 9500. I hear its not good to mount High or anywhere where the GPS can be blocked. From the looks on the Picture - im surprised GPS has not been malfunctioning. Then again that would be where Escort Live would shine.

4 - location of the Mute/ report button. If you are referring to the only small space in the car (of which i dont know why its there) right in front of the Shifter, then you read my mind. Did you have to remove any parts of the plastic frame? Can we get more pics on this please?

Thanks again!

Sorry for not responding quicker. I didn't get the notification e-mail for this thread.

For Pandora, it uses the iPhone cable for the Bespoke. Perhaps someone with an iPhone would have to test if it can pair with the devices simultaneously (and be used simultaneously). On my iPad, it does often show that it is paired with the Escort Live unit and the Bespoke at the same time. I am pretty sure they can because I think I have switched to bluetooth audio and used the Escort Live at the same time come to think of it.

I did direct wire the Escort. Since the cigarette lighter wires are in the general vicinity, I tapped into those using the taps we have. They're great and create a perpendicular connection vs the ones where you have to wire it in parallel. Tap the wire with the female portion and put the male end on the direct wire for the Escort.

If I were to wire as many things up as I did in the FJ, I would have a relay and a separate fuse box.

The GPS only cuts out when I'm in a parking garage. Other than that it is perfectly fine.

I do use the slot in front of the shifter. For the mute button. Since I had the vehicle only a few days before doing this, I didn't want to tear it apart (remove the center console). All I did was use a half inch bit to make an opening to pass the wires through. If you remove the panel from the driver's side, you should be able to feed wires into there.

Please feel free to keep the questions coming.
