I've owned a Subaru STi, I currently own a lightly modified (260whp) WRX, I've also owned a 230whp 2300lb 1988 Silvia, I've reviewed the Lancer Evo for a national newspaper, I've driven a CTS-V and Camaro at Mosport (Canadian Tire Motorsports Park).
I still bought the FR-S as a toy (my WRX is my daily driver) because frankly nothing is as fun to drive. Sure in a straight line I'll lose to a Camry but when you're tearing up the hilly backroads at night with some good music on, or tracking the perfect line through moss corner without a hint of tire squeal at MoSport it's heaven. If you just want to be faster than everyone else, buy a mustang, you'll love it. |

![]() Well, both Subaru BRZs have been sold. It's between the Camaro and the 2013 Scion. The Scion has the 1.9%, but I'm only going to keep the financing for a year or two anyway, so it shouldn't make much of a difference. The Camaro is the "deal" but I know my husband doesn't want one and he prefers the Scion. As far as a perfect car, and this is just my personal taste, I love the 3000 GT, that would be my choice, assuming we are in reality and not in the world of Ferraris etc. |

Until your final statement, I would have predicted that you would suffer periodic buyer's remorse whichever car you chose. But, given this last point, driving it a mere once or twice per week, and your husband both preferring it to the Camaro and wishing to drive the twin more often, well buy the twin, absolutely. The twin purchase will round out your stable of cool cars, whereas the Camaro is just more of the same. I'd go for the greater variety, and the option to pick and choose to suit my mood for the day. You'll have a fuel miser, a powerful pony car, and a nimble sports/GT to choose from each day. You're allowed to drive "your" Challenger, aren't you?

You may not like the Subaru navigation. Basically, I do not use mine at all on my BRZ Limited. It's an annoying distraction, and I turn it OFF when I'm driving. It's a serious safety hazard trying to decipher that thing when moving. When necessary I'll turn it ON to get my bearings. Basically, I don't care for it, and find little use for it. I've never used a navi system before, so I'm unable to compare and contrast with others. My reading suggests a consensus that this is a poor navi system that a great many users dislike. For what that's worth... |

Anyway- the FRS has 137 miles. Isn't that a bit much for a "new" car? I wouldn't care if it was 137 miles on a Prius, but this is manual and people like to drift with these cars. The dealership is filled with young sales guys... |

Dealership sales guys and 99% of people on a test drive don't actually know how to drift, so I wouldn't worry about that too much. It's still way less than one tank of gas.

The one test drive where the guy drove it (I asked him to find a side street) he drove it like a lunatic. Now, this showed me how great the car was....I just don't know what this does to a new car.

I suspected that. Didn't want to mention it in case it wasn't so. That's impressive. (Never once thought you were a troll. )Quote:
![]() Too many youngsters enter law school with "false expectations" of where it will take them. Not to mention the poor job prospects for so many of them upon graduation. It's not like TV. I have a lot of concerns about the nature of those miles on a stone-cold engine with cold oil, but having said that, cars are tough these days. I don't know that one could say with any certainty that those early rough miles actually affected anything long term, you know? It's a risk I prefer to avoid, but in this instance it's probably unavoidable when seeking the greatest discount. We bought our new Miata in 2006 with 50 miles on it. Never did that before. But, it was a situation like yours; huge discount vs. a new one with no test miles on it. So, what do you think, Jen? Thinking of buying a twin? You'll enjoy it. That's for sure. And you're not married to it for life. Enjoy it for what it offers, and sell/trade it as needed in the years ahead when you're ready to move on. ![]() Quote:
You're not marrying them, either. Don't let them come between you and either Toyota's or Subaru's cool product. It's the cool car you're after, right? |

I meant that the young sales guys might have been joy riding with the car for some of those 167 miles
![]() As a teacher, we are more than fairly compensated in NY. I love my kids. The parents for the most part are great. If I have had any issues, it's because they care so deeply about their kid's success, that they get passionate about the kid's performance. Sometimes it's "my kid is perfect, you are the problem," but you learn not to take that personally and you do damage control. I work in a very high pressure district where the parents are quite successful. They care about education and so do the kids. I think the pressure is a good thing. Our staff is exceptional. I went back to my law school a few years ago to get a transcript. They had almost doubled the enrollment and the tuition was really high. The reality is, if you have a pulse and the money, you can get into law school. I had scholarships for my education so I don't have debt, which is why I had the chance to leave. I really wouldn't recommend law as a career. Law school was great. I loved every minute of it. The practice of law is an entirely different thing. You are almost expected to sell your soul for money. I won't do that. No amount of money will purchase my honesty, so I left. There will always be Camaros and I'll get one eventually, but with the Challenger, it makes no sense, especially the 323hp version when we have the R/T with the 400hp. The cars feel pretty close. The FRS is different, fun at slower speeds. It feels like my motorcycle (FZ-09), that same insane feeling when you lean on it a little. |
