Yes, it always has been. See the box on the right under "Predecessor".

Hi @Jen ...... good to hear from you again ......

Sounds like you had an eye opening experience driving a FR-S.

Yep, the clutch takes some getten used to. The engine torque is relatively low and the flywheel relatively light. So, it takes a bit of finesse to get er going. Don't feel bad, I've driven clutched vehicles for over 65 years and, even after a year of ownership, I stall my MT FR-S from time to time.....

As far as shifting a lot, that's all part of the fun of it. For best results, one has to keep the revs up ..... that's the way the little engine likes it ....

Yep, coming from a larger, more powerful machine, the FR-S takes some getten used to ..... but once you get to know it better ..... the more fun both of you will have ......

The fact our asses are 6" or less from pavement makes everything feel fast and a common suv beside you looks like a tank lol. Going from a Tundra at work and into my car gives me a reality check every time at how height alone makes you "feel" something is faster then it is. The word FUN is what these cars are in conclusion.

That's funny how anyone would think I came on here to bash this car. I'm looking to buy one. I left a positive review. You guys are paranoid.
I am really into cars and have a bunch of them but they are mostly slow- '86 Porsche 944, '86 Vette, etc. The FRS reminds me of the Porsche. Those cars are automatic though.
I don't know if I can deal with the clutch on this, that's the main issue. It's this or the Camaro, which was way more boring but easier for me to drive since the shifting was more straight forward. That and premium vs regular gas (I commute 122 miles per day).
Rumor has it that there might be a new 3000gt coming out so I might wait for that (one of my all time favorite cars, I like F body looking cars like the '80's camaros/trans ams, corvettes, etc)

Have you tried the AT frs?

@Jen The engagement point of the clutch on this car is pretty odd. I could not get used to it myself. Fortunately, there is a quick and easy way to adjust it. This only takes a few minutes and can be found in the DIY section.

Good point! Forgot about that thread and I've heard it makes a big difference. I still need to try this myself.

With a tune, wheels, tires and a full camber kit the car picks up a lot better including minor bolt ons and using a ratio of 6/4 91/100 the car shows potential but, it will always need FI to become a better car off the line. It's also all about who is driving it naturally lets be honest. I love mine especially the cars line

Thanks for your input Jen!
I too think the FR-S is a great handling car. Drive it for a week and the shifting will be second nature, you'll learn. The FR-S ticks a lot of boxes for people who enjoy driving, fun factor, fuel mileage, handling, looks - but most Americans can only ask 'is it fast?'

Stitching together a series of curves is where the fun is for me. It sounds like you like that feeling too. To me; light and flickable is more engaging than heavy and fast.

@Jen, thanks for all the positive feedback on our cars. I agree completely with your Porsche remark. The only cars I've driven that felt the same were a 93 rx7 and a 96 carrera. And I totally get the challenger comparo my mom drives an r/t and even tho I love the torque it feels less "alive" and to me less fun. And hoping to influence ur future purchase I commute about 70 miles a day, a far cry from your drive but even at ~$3.80 per gallon a $40 fill up lasts me 6 days. And I'm not exactly a leisurely driver. Just food for thought.

I drove a 2014 Mustang V6 automatic for a weekend and thought it didn't feel as fast as the numbers would suggest. One of the problems was the automatic transmission. When you stomped on the gas on the highway, the car would take 1-2 seconds to downshift, then the car would finally accelerate as you would expect.

The dullness of the transmission combined with the weight and softness of the car made it feel very lethargic.

The FR-S with a manual is a much crisper, rewarding experience IMO. Very responsive. And if you keep the revs above 4500 rpm, it feels decently quick in a straight line.

AT 86 does not have the same problem so it'll probably suit OP the best if she is having trouble shifting in the MT, without the downfall of automatic transmissions of yesteryears.
