My dealer tried to sell me the automatic they had instead of the MT I wanted, and then tried telling me it had a CVT because it had paddle shifters.

No.

Bad dealer.

This. One guy wouldn't even let me test drive the FR-S. He put me in a vert coupe 335i and Camaro RS. Ignored the rest of his calls that week and bought it from a different dealer.

My salesman had been selling cars for a month and knew pretty much everything about the BRZ and the WRX (except whether or not the BRZ had a license plate mounting point). But he was also a car enthusiast.

When I started looking for my car in August 2012, I emailed the nearby Suby dealer asking if they were getting a BRZ. He replied with something along the lines of " The new BRX is going to be a hot item to come by. We don't have one right now because they fly out of the showroom so fast!!"

I replied that I was looking for a BRZ, not a BRX. I then asked him to give me more info on the BRX since I hadn't heard of it before. I ended up in the FRS because the Toyota dealership actually knew a little about the car. It was a waiting game either way at the time, so that is what sold me.

I recently bought a BRZ (at a different dealership than the BRX one) and the buying experience was totally different from a year and a half ago. The salesman knew I had had a FRS, so he didn't try to 'sell' me on this and that. He also knew I was there to take the car home, so he just mentioned things about the stereo while we were on the test drive.

Its a job like any other hussle. Most times you dont bullshit a customer, they bullshit themself. Coming in thinking they know more then salesman. a Salesman has know more than general knowledge about ever vehicle on the lot. And depend how long you been there and how much inventory has changed dictates how much bullshit you get from a salesman. natural gifts like photograpic memory and ppl skills and dumb luck is what you need to succeed in the world of selling cars. Try to feed your family off a uncertain job such as that. Most ppl become what they hate. I quit before even had the desire to take advantage of ppl. ( but not that you ask me old guy having a flash back)
He said it was front wheel drive..... That means he didn't know shit, and calling it front wheel drive makes the car less attractive.

My experience with the dealers mirroring this thread just make me think there will never be another car like ours, the general public has forgotten what a sports car is.

I know more about all subaru models than the dealers. It's very sad. But then again I'm really hardcore when it comes to subarus.

Hard.
Core.

Vending machines and ordering online can't come fast enough. Elon Musk save us please. It took me four hours to buy my car, fuck if I know why. I knew what I wanted, the car was 'pure price' I qualified for the financing and I turned down all their bullshit add ons. Four hours. The only positive is he knew he didn't have to 'sell' me on the car so he didn't say anything stupid like at the other dealerships.

I don't understand why it would take 4 hours.

Walk in the door = 5 mins
Wait for a salesman = 5 ~ 10mins
Sit down and chit chat = 2 mins
Get down to business = 30 mins
Wait for financing approval = 15 mins
Turn down all the bullshit = 5 mins
Padding for unexpected stuff = 30 mins ~ 1hr

Total: 1.5hrs give or take 10 mins. Maybe 2 hours tops.

Me neither brother me neither.

Walk in, with appointment, test drive and walk around ~half an hour
Agree to the sticker price draw up documents, photocopy documents, wait for approval ~ hour
Sit down with finance guy, print out contract listen through garbage sales pitch ~ hour
Allow dealership to prep car while waiting for the slowest scanning machine on earth and final approval ~ hour

Get the thumbs up to go, maybe 3.5 hours total, it was a year ago I remember sitting through my parents buying 3 cars, I think the fastest one took 3 hours with a test drive. The most annoying part is turning down bullshit, around here it's a minimum half hour for that. I'll admit I spend a good 20-30 minutes reading over the contract, and I'm glad I did, there were mistakes.

Guess I should buy my next car in Canada

I guess I got lucky because my salesperson knew more about the car than I did. And I'd been researching the car for months!
