Why are people so quick to blame some dude having issues. The DSM epidemic of crankwalk was mostly caused by the popularity of a very heavy pressure plate they ran very often by none other than ACT. |

PSA: ACT vs EXEDY street clutches
Quote:
PRE did the install of the ACT clutch. Why would you assume that I installed it without asking? They also disassembled it but found no problem. That doesn't mean there isn't a problem. Just not something verifiable by the naked eye. Even PRE thinks the ACT clutches are problematic. ACT wants the PP to test it. That should explain enough. PRE also installed the new EXEDY. I never waited to have a professional look at it. It was looked at from day 2 but the problem has been very sporadic only getting worse over time. Btw: my credibility is perfectly fine. Thank you very much.

Your story is missing something and you are shilling for exedy now with about 0 practical experience with the product. You just switch out the clutch and have fixed a problem that was existed since day 1 with the other clutch which was probably user error. Or it could've been a faulty product but why drive around for a full year on it??? Something just doesn't make sense. It's like people that replace worn out tires with new tires and exclaim they are the best ever after driving a few on ramps at 4/10s.

When ACT tests the PP, you will get an answer. FYI, everybody I have talked to personally (in person) never has anything good to say about ACT. There is usually a reason for that. I don't need a job with Malaysia Airlines and to make fun of such a tragic thing is not nice. |

What kind of evidence are you expecting? Just because there isn't a glaring fault that doesn't mean the clutch isn't defective. If the pressure plate is just slightly misaligned it could prevent the clutch from disengaging properly, but without very precise measurements and a good one to compare to you'd NEVER spot it. It would only take a mm or two to make the difference from a perfectly good clutch to one that doesn't disengage nearly enough.
The fact that ACT wants the parts back should be enough evidence alone.

People today are so quick to speak out. What happened to critical thinking? The scientific process? This forum (to be fair, most forums) reminds me of idiotcracy more often than not. I'm not calling anyone an idiot but it's just the anti-intellectual, mob mentality that exists. How about some hard facts of what went wrong before making a big deal about ACT. Is that SOOO much to ask? As an owner of their products, I'd really want to know if there is something to watch out for. The stuff from 8th gen is interesting but not really applicable since it's a different problem specific to HD PPs on that platform. |
