My 2003 Toyota Matrix does this. If I hit the unlock button on the remote but do not open any doors, it will then lock the doors again. I believe this is to CYA in case you mistakenly hit the unlock button in your pocket/purse/whatever, so it doesn't leave your car unlocked.

during normal driving and parking (park, turn off the keys than get out of the car) it won't auto lock. I think the feature is for the times when you unlock the car for someone or to get something and forget to lock it back up.

at least i have never seen it auto lock under other circumstances.

Yep, my apologies. I sat around the car after getting home last night and y'all are right. I could have sworn it auto locked on me a few times though after I got out of the car. Sometimes the details get a little fuzzy up top.
