Hi all

Hope you can chime in.
I bought 17x8.25 XXR 527's
Was wondering if the stock Michelin tire would work (215/45/17)
Think it would be a tiny stretch but want couple second opinion
What size bigger would work? 225/45/17 or 245/40/17?

Car is currently stock height and not tracked

Hi everyone,

Looking to keep the stock tyres (Michellin Primacy HP in 215/45/17) and keep the stock height.

Is this wheel size ideal?
17x7.0 +38

Any point in have different sizes between the front and rear wheels?

Cheers, everyone!

Ideal for what? That size wheel will fit and will be like adding 10mm spacers to your stock wheels. The stock rims are 17x7 et48.

Unless you are trying to go really fast in a straight line, or prefer the looks that wider rear wheels can give you - I would stick to same front and rear, makes it easy to rotate tires.

Hi mate,

Thanks for getting back to me. You've made a very good point about keeping the front/rear wheels standard for tyre rotation, I hadn't considered that before.

I just wanted to make sure that they would fit the stock tyres, wouldn't stick out past the arches and wouldn't need additional spacers, etc.

My Enkei Rijan wheels will be arriving very soon. The wheel shop only sells the ugly chrome nuts which I don't like.

A few questions before I go to pickup the wheels. First, can I use my existing OEM ones for the new wheels (just temporary)? Second, do I need the cone or ball seat for the Enkei wheels?

I know the nut size is 12 x 1.25 mm. Should I pick the open end or close end nut type? Any differences?

Find your local performance shop and get a set of tuner lugnuts, open or closed is your preference but I prefer closed as the stud is not exposed to the elements. Cone seat for most all aftermarket wheels.

You won't be able to use the stock lugs.

Gorilla makes a great cost-friendly tuner lugnut, McGard are more expensive and have the washer-type seat. I've used both.

My favorite are the spline-drive type.

Just curious, why the OEM nuts are not usable? They are cone seat as well.

The "hole" in the wheel is not wide enough in many aftermarket wheels. Once you put a socket over the OEM lugnut, it will either just barely fit and the socket will scratch your wheels, or not fit at all.

You're talking about $40 for a full set of Gorilla spline-drive lugnuts with a special key so that your wheels can't be stolen using a regular socket. Money well spent if you're investing in aftermarket wheels.

Lots of performance shops in Markham should have them in stock.

Oh no no no, I am not being cheap out. I just want to know why the OEM wheel nuts do not fit (You just explained to me).

Regarding the tuner nuts, I know most of them will have the paint chips problems.

I really cannot find a store in Markham selling those Gorilla spline-drive lugnuts. Most of them are selling the Muteki and etc. (the fancy ones).

Thanks a lot, I will try calling this shop

Haha, you are probably still younger than I. Iirc, it was about 25 years ago when I first visited his shop. Phil grabbed a set of rare Riken's he had at the time and brought them out to my AE86 to test fit them.

Good luck!

No age disclosure in this forum please

I was there buying snow tire package but not much choice at the first time. Steel rims were the cheapest package and wheel covers were free of charge. It was a very good deal for a poor student like me at that time.
