This was my best "official scoring" lap in the 3 sessions that counted for 86CUP. Lap of 2:22.4.

In the final (unofficial) session I managed a 2:18.7. No video from Harry's on this one, so I will have to pull it from the GoPro video later.

but, here's some colorful graphs to look at comparing the 2:22 to the 2:18 laps.

2014 FRS

* Stoptech stainless steel brake lines
(I got the kit http://www.maperformance.com/stoptec...ubaru-brz.html)
* Stoptech STR 660 DOT4 brake fluid
* 215/45R-17 Dunlop Direzza ZII
And lastly, -1.2 front camber was dialed in.
Nothing else was done to the car.

2:11.16 was done by my buddy (with me in it) who is an extremely experienced driver, and it was his first time driving a FRS/BRZ. The tires had 4 track days (approx. 18-20 heat cycles) on it before yesterday (Saturday). He would've done sub 2:10 I wasn't riding in it. Out of the 4 laps that he ran, he also did another lap with 2:11.18 so it was not just 1 fast lap. The car & the drive are both consistent.

Just for sh!ts and giggles, I gave other buddy, who is also an experienced driver, my last session of the day and he did 2:13.73 by himself

My best was 2:18.48 with the exactly same setup (but no front camber dialed in and brand new ZII) at T-Hill Bypass.

BW is a bit too far for me, so hope to see you all again at THill or Laguna Seca.
An excellent time with minimal modifications. Rehabjeff has achieved similar times on similar tires.

Happy to see everyone had a great time and that the event went well. Keep it up guys. Still waiting to eat crow...

Very clean & quick line! Seems like I really missed out, could have at least just spectated and do a ride along to tweak my line. Aaaahhhh adulthood...

OK here is my 2:18 lap. I definitely feel like the tires had even more grip but I didn't feel comfortable going too much harder at the end of the day. It was a lot of fun trying to chase and keep up with the Subie though.

Nice driving Plato.

I dont know if it's correct or not but the way I assess my driving line is how hard I'm attacking the kerbs and in turn getting closer to the apex. It might be the camera angle, but I saw you leave some space between you and the kerb a few times.

yeah, I definitely noticed that too, I still get a little nervous going all the way to the edge, especially on the right side. One of my first sessions I mounted the camera on the right side so I could see how close/far I was, something to work on for sure. A lot of things to work on really...

btw I like how you use the Euro spelling for kerbs hahaha.

Yeah it is intimidating to go all the way to the edge. I found a good way to get comfortable being there is to go all the way to the edge on the first and last laps, when you're warming up/cooling down and driving a little slower (also works when you're following someone who's slower). Then as the session goes on and you gain speed, you'll be more comfortable knowing where you need to be.

Also, I think I just watch too much Formula 1. When I talk racing it's kerbs and paddock lol

Nice job, man. The next time you are out, work on turns 8, 9, and 10. You are pinching yourself off at the exit and not tracking out all the way. The reason this is happening is that you are turning in too late. Late apex is safe, but those particular turns are early apex, early turn in. You'll find that once you do that, you will exit out much wider and much faster. Keep it up!

No problem. I'm sure you were running around talking to people and driving in between. I didn't know your car was supercharged. Def want to check it out next time. Question - Do you have the times posted some where?

Nice meeting you and definitely should see you around more often.

@icemang17 - Thanks again for the day's worth of show n tell. I know we received a bonus having you in the 86 community. We did stop by your shop, saw your racers, saw your towers of slicks and radials, and your compradres were inviting. Get that white one rebuilt already haha. And yeah I'll try to get more dampening before the next time your in the seat. I did lower the tire pressures to 32-31 but even that wasn't enough.

@sw20kosh - come on down. You know what to do when time comes, or need extra help and space.

@PMok - nice save! You almost can tell from your vid that you saw it coming.

I managed to walk around during lunch, met a few more 86 owners. Even met a couple AE86 owners interested in the 86Cup. How to mix in their AE86s with our modern ones, hmm why not. One AE86 weighs in at 2200lbs - what category would he be in. Overall a positive environment with the 86 owners.

thanks for the pointers! I will keep that in mind. Now to make sure I get back to Thill again before too long...

had a few other questions which maybe I should have asked anyone else who was around and available that day...

on the front straight, I was hitting top of 4th gear near the end of it and found upshifting to 5th let me carry a little more top speed, but then found myself only being there for a few seconds and then having to lose time on shifting. So I found myself at times staying in 4th and just holding at redline until braking point for turn 1. thoughts on which is better?

and in turn 5 (bypass), not sure where I should brake and where to get back on the throttle. I was told it was very similar approach to turn 3. But I tended to take it fairly conservatively.

Nice smooth driving!

People can also gain a lot of time in turn 1 and 2 as they get more confident. You will be surprised how fast you can take turn 1 and how fast you can dive bomb turn 2 on entry (i.e. brake late and trail brake it). I remember my instructor kept pushing me in this turn in particular because I really didn't think you could enter turn 2 so fast.
