Thanks!
You have a problem, that's not normal.

Thank you! To clarify, I have already brought it back once (yesterday) after receiving the Evap Emissions error codes, which the dealer cleared and then told me were the result of a leaky hose (which they claim to have fixed).

Today though, the car drives noticeably worse than before the pump was replaced, and isn't throwing a code or light. It's especially bad on throttle tip-in - I've almost stalled three times, and had to stab the throttle to keep it alive. This thing is going back tomorrow.

Has anyone determined whether or not this is actually a PROBLEM rather than just a NOISE?

Mine does it, of course, but I've just been ignoring it. Car feels fine. Noise can be a bit irritating, but it only does it at idle so I'm not sure I honestly care as long as it isn't actually hurting anything.

I don't think it's just a noise. My BRZ, bought in late Oct. has almost 4k miles and the crickets are now so bad that not only can I hear them inside my car idling when the radio is mid-volume, I can hear them outside of my car standing over 20 feet away with other idling cars, IT'S FUCKING EMBARRASSING, and really starting to piss me off. Will go to the dealer for a fix but not sure if they actually have a legitimate one yet...

I bought mine in January and have 3600 miles on it. Haven't heard a chirp since I bought it. Been using strictly Chevron from say one.

Mine didn't start until a little after 4k miles. It has 10k now.

16xxx miles on mine now, and while the chirps still show up occasionally, they seem to be fading. Still on the original pump. Seems to be just a noise to me, and nobody has had an issue directly related to the chirping (one owner had his car go up in flames after an improper fix, but that was just a sh*tty job by the service tech).

@Deathalo, are you still on your first pump? I'd say go ahead and get a new one, see if its any better. I would think you are going to have some issues getting Subaru to replace it, though. Word of mouth is that Subbie dealerships are declaring the noise "normal."

It's been pretty long since that oct revision, think they are throwing in the towel?

Still on the first pump, was kinda for people who got theirs replaced to hit 3k-4k, but I haven't really heard any definitive results. I will probably get it replaced soon though, and I'm sure I can convince the techs to do it, considering I have evidence that other dealers have done it for other owners and I have the TSB showing a new part exists.

I'm at a little over 8000 miles now and have had the crickets pretty much from the start. I did an experiment this weekend and had interesting results. I ran my tank of Shell 93 almost empty and filled up with non-ethanol 93 premium from a local Phillips 66 station. Since then the crickets have gone away. Also, my average fuel economy has gone from 26 mpg to 29 mpg. It looks like this chirping issue is caused by ethanol in the gas. I really wish they'd stop putting that crap in our fuel supply. Corn doesn't belong in my whisky or my gas tank. lol
