Had the pump replaced the first time around 3.5K. It was cricket-free for less than 1000 miles. Got another one installed a few weeks ago at 42K and just crested 1000 miles on it. Guess I'm living on borrowed time. Will post again when the crickets return.

Same here... 1st replacement around 1st scheduled service.. no questions asked... and then the noise returned in less than 1000 miles. Just took it in for the 15K service.. complained about the returned noise... no replacement, but "we're opening a case to have this evaluated..." (sigh)

Never bothered to have it checked. I just got used to it though.

What I noticed is that when I break the 7k rpm, the chirping seems to go away. It'll come back the following day on my next regular driving style.

Crickets when it's hot outside, the UFO sound when it's cold. Yup, I get the "wub wub wub" during idle in cold weather. Just like the crickets, gone when you accelerate.

I finally got mine documented but plan on waiting until the end of my standard warranty period before replacing it. I don't want to waste my time having an equally impressive new fuel pump design put in that's going to produce the same irritating noise.

I know there's been debate on it, but I'm becoming convinced that gas makes a difference. When I fill up at Shell stations, the sound seems to abate or disappear entirely. When I fill up at Exxon, it's louder, but not irritating.

Yesterday, however, I filled up at Sam's Wholesale Club, and my car sounded like the entire cricket case at the bait shop had been exposed to gamma rays and become mutants. I thought the damned fuel pump was going to jump off the car. I ran it down to 3/4 tank today and refilled it with Shell gas, and the crickets are gone. For now.

I should note that I'm using 93 octane, and all these stations have their pumps labeled as 10% ethanol. I'm wondering if additives in the gasolines (or lack thereof) might affect this.

About 1.5 tank fills of the Shell 98 RON here in oz (no ethanol) and the crickets are gone after 15L of Caltex 98, even today with 35C degree weather. Different fuel seems to be a catalyst for the racket. Still sounds like a diesel engine at idle :/

Mine hasn't done it as much or as often lately. 15k miles, maybe it's some thing that goes away after a while?

Soooo... I have already voted no. Last night, pulled into my driveway and got out to open my garage door (damn no auto door opener) and I thought, is that my belt chirping? Nope. F'in crickets. 18,065 on the clock.

The inconsistencies annoy me the most! My chirps started around 500 km then slowly faded and seemed to have stopped sometime after 1500 km or so. Now at over 2200 km they came back with a vengeance. No change in fuel used whatsoever. The only difference has been the warmer weather we've been having.

That you know of. You can fill up at the same station every time and get different blends of fuel. I don't know about north of the border, but in the US we have 20 different blends to meet various state and federal regulations. They are grouped mostly into "summer blends" and "winter blends," with the summer blends being more pure and the winter blends cut with stuff like butane to make them cheaper. Top tier gasoline retailers are generally going to be more consistent, but that doesn't mean the gas won't change at all.

That may not be the source of your crickets, but being unable to rely completely on the consistency of the fuel makes it a lot harder to figure out what's actually causing it.

For those who've had their fuel pumps replaced, have you noticed the car is substantially more sluggish afterwards? I had mine replaced on Tuesday, and it threw a CEL yesterday for a large emission evap leak, amongst other things. It was stumbling and breaking up, but the dealer said it was just a loose hose, and that it's fixed now. However, driving it last night and this morning, it is extremely sluggish to rev, and feels almost like a vacuum leak. Does the ECU have to re-learn and adapt, or is this symptomatic of a vac leak? Thanks!

YESS!!! I said the samething but I thought I was just being paranoid!
My car made weird sounds when I gave throttle and it felt like my car lost power a bit.
I'm never going back to the dealer not even for a TSB, that's for sure. They always find a way to make my car worse

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. I am going to take the car out and beat on it this weekend to see if I can get it to re-learn. If not, I'm going to take it back to the dealer. Not even 3000 miles on the car, and already on my 4th trip - not impressed.

Take it to a mechanic you trust. Everytime I go to the dealer something always gets messed up.
