I'm pretty sure none of the cars I've driven have this. At 3k miles I can and feel the rear diff and hear the injectors....

I thought the latest theory on the crickets was an improperly installed valve inside the pump itself during manufacture?

I run e85 daily and unless I got used to them, the crickets haven't gotten any louder at all since I switched over from 93.

I've had squeaks with every gasoline I've used. I've tried different branches of the same company in different cities. The Crickets are relentless. Maybe I need to drive it till near empty and fill up?

Fuel companies I've used:
76
Shell
Costco
Arco AM/PM
Chevron

It for sure has to do with the ethanol. The day I bought my car it was fine. The very first fill up with 10 % ethanol was immediate chirps. It really isn't even a question. At least one cause for the chirping is this. I left the state and as soon as I fill up with a non ethanol blend it goes away. Again for sure atleast one thing for sure 100 % is the ethanol. It sucks your on here diluting a possible solution because you dont have identical symptoms

You're out of luck without leaving the state. CA allows or mandates an ethanol blend. We are screwed unless they make a piece that can handle the ethanol.

How do you know it had ethanol free gas in it when you purchased it?

The Ethanol issue has be suspected since day 1, and some people seem to have success in running different brands of gas but I believe it was dis-proven to be the root issue in all cases (meaning it does not eliminate the crickets in all cases), looking for the detailed thread where the pump was torn down now. And if I am providing this one little bit of "bad" information it is more than made for by the many threads i have posted about tuning tech etc.

Edit:
Found the Subaru tsb that explains it is to do with the clearances on the pump internals, looks like this latest revision says that fuel formulation may contribute so if running E0 works for you that's great, but i believe the root cause is still the pump design or rather the way tolerances stack up on some pumps in comparison to others. That does not mean it works in all cases, nor that it will always work in yours.

Well they must have fixed it. I replaced my pump around Christmas and haven't chirped yet.

With me they've been gone since the weather turned cold here in St Louis. However on the couple of days recently that it has gotten warmer I can definitely hear them again.

We have 93 around here and it is 10% ethanol. I almost exclusively use Quiktrip to refill.

Temperature has effected/eliminated the crickets for the time being, but I fear they will return.

I posted this in the "crickets" thread a while back. On my old BMW they had probs with the DI fuel pump, and someone suggested running a capfull of synthetic 2-stroke oil per tankfull of gas, and that was supposed to help.

I haven't had the crickets, but I bet this trick would work. It certainly wouldn't hurt anything to try.
