Diode Dynamic LED blow $400 fuse...

So I had an issue with the passenger side door courtesy light stays on ALL the time!! This only happened after the LEDs (stage 2) were installed. Ive seen similar threads where it blew a BIU fuse which is $400...

Now what to do?

Wow, that's good to know, I was just about to order the same thing too!

Edit: Did you email/call them? They're really helpful!

This seems unusual. Many of my friends w BRZs had LED courtesy lights and had no issues. I don't think that this is the cause of the fuse blowing out. Do you even know if the fuse you mentioned controls the accessory lighting?

I have the same LED's from Diode Dynamics in my courtesy lights as well and had no issues with them during install or to this day. Before I did mine there seemed to be people having the problem you had, where it blows the BIU.
It was from the voltage difference from the stock lights to the LED's and it trips something in the BIU since the current is different. I also saw people who used something conductive to remove the light (screwdriver) frying the BIU. (I'm no electrical genius but this is what I remember reading before I installed mine)

It has nothing to do with Diode Dynamics specifiacally as I've seen people who purchased LED's from other places that had the same problem.

The only thing you can do to fix it is take it to the dealership and have them replace the BIU. But put your stock lights back in otherwise if they see the LED's they may try to make you pay for it.

Hope this helps and Good luck!

This is why I disconnected the lighting harness from the whole courtesy light assembly before using a screwdriver to help remove the bulb...

Yup, this is exactly what happened to me. Installed everything with the battery disconnected, noticed one light wasn't lit, went to flip the bulb around, couldn't get it out because that connector fits so tightly, grabbed screwdriver blade to lever the bulb out without stopping to think that maybe that wouldn't be a good idea since the entire door marker housing is conductive.

Very annoying, but also definitely my dumb ass's fault. I'm not gonna bother replacing the BIU since a running door marker LED isn't a problem I'm prepared to pay $400 to correct; the LED draws so little power that its essentially a cosmetic issue. I don't know how long it would take to drain your battery, but I'm guessing it's a very, very long time. I know I've left my car parked for days at time with no adverse effects. Maybe it would be different in a seriously cold environment? IDK.

Anyway, yeah, this problem is kind of annoying. I'm more irritated with Subaru for using such shitty connectors than anything else, though: why they thought it would be clever to design housings where it requires like 50lbs of force to remove a bulb for replacement is beyond me. I almost gave up on my trunk light because I couldn't grip the stock bulb hard enough to pull it out and I was worried about breaking it if I tried to use a tool. I finally did manage to extract it, but only after a lot of cursing and sore fingers.

You should remove the housing prior to installing the bulb, and then re-install the assembly once the LED is installed.

That will prevent this from happening, and shouldn't scare anyone away from buying the door light LEDs.

I suggest watching this installation video for more tips: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIYXMElJLlk"]2007-2011 Toyota Camry LED Installation - YouTube[/ame]

He said the light was ON...if the light was ON the fuse was NOT blown...he said he saw it blow other peoples fuses...not that his is blown. Think he wants to know why its staying on ALL THE TIME.

He is confusing fuses with the BIU or BUI whatever it is, i was told from the dealer it was like a component that controlled several electrical parts.

And this has happened to me personally.

I did do that and it still fried the BIU. It's not harming anything so I'm not going to bother fixing it. Now, if it was affecting OTHER things in the car, then I'd consider getting it fixed, but since it isn't, I'm not going to bother.
