The question I ask, is are you spending $5000 for a faster car or $5000 for a prettier car? :p

You'll attract more men with a faster car, and isn't that what we're all here for?

Nothing beats a GT-R for that.

I think it's brilliant then. More people will buy the JR kit and then we can have increased sample data to even out the smallest data set so far. (could be wrong, too lazy to check, but I thought all the other kits have sold more or at least more feedback posted here)

Utekineir really really wanted the vortech idler/belt thread added to their pile, so here it goes!

That thread discussed two separate issues which resulted in belts breaking. First, some pulleys being shipped by Vortech were crappy; there was no final word on whether it was a bad batch or a bad manufacturer. Regardless, Vortech began shipping new, different pulleys in their kits.

The second issue was a pipe-rubbing clearance issues where the pipe going over the Vortech pulley was rubbing the pulley. Vortech responded by redesigning this pipe in their kit.

There were a total of 10 owner-reported incidents reported in posts 1, 7, 12, 17, 90, 108, 114, 125, 143 of that thread. Two of them (posts 12 and 124) were already accounted for in the compilation of the larger "discussion" thread. Again, I did not include nelsmar's issues because he states those were caused by fa20club and not Vortech.

Here is the revised chart for Total Number of Issues:

Vortech's bar has gotten substantially taller (heh) as they increased from 14 to 22 issues. They've been on the market the longest though, so how does it affect their issues-per-month (IPM) number?

Their IPM has increased from 1.17 to 1.80.

Innovate would need to go issue-free for roughly 5 months to match Vortech's revised IPM.

Kraftwerks would need to go issue-free until August 2015 to match Vortech's revised IPM. If you want to disregard the "lack of oil cooler solution" row, then they could catch up in July 2015!

Jackson Racing would need seven issues reported next month to match Vortech's revised IPM.

--------

Ralph Spoilsport & normancw, you're welcome!
thanks for summarizing the data, I appreciate the time you guys took to come up with something like this.. It'd be also nice/beneficial if we knew the total amounts sold so that we can have another graph for error margins (percentage numbers of the issues to the actually sold amounts) maybe it's time to start a poll to gather more and more data..as someone also mentioned earlier, maybe the makers' willingness and the effort they put to overcome the QC issues are more important than the actual figures, in other words everybody makes mistakes but being in denial is the worst thing I could ever expect from a company

I went to Kraftwerks directly with a list of my issues and it at least sounds like they're trying to address each one. I'm going to give them some additional time to get things right as I view most of them to be relatively minor.

Innovate doesn't provide top end power like the other kits. I am not a fan of the whine.

The kraftworks uses the cogged belt iirc. This will make it difficult to find a replacement?

JR kit uses stock belt but still takes a fluid that is way overpriced. WAY more overpriced than the Vortech system.
KW sells the replacement belts. You should note that if you had an issue with a belt, you would not be left stranded...you could just keep driving the car without boost until you get a new belt

i think this thread should be renamed 'BroScience Gone Wild!'
while i understand the good intentions of this thread, creating dyno graphs on interpolated data based on dyno runs of non-similarly modified vehicles and quality issue graphs based on only partial and self-admitted flawed data seems a bit misleading and irresponsible.

if you are going to compare dyno graphs in an overlay format...you cant use different cars...and you certainly cannot use different cars with different mods tested on different dynos.

if you are going to have a discussion about quality....shouldn't we take an emergency room approach and triage the issues? perhaps you can weight the issues factoring in 1)how easily and quickly can the issue be resolved 2)how catastrophic are the effects of the issue. certainly a mispackaged bolt is less serious issue than a design related issue that snaps belts and leaves you stranded by the side of the road.

i feel i can freely speak for KW when i say...
1) KW has and will continue to actively resolve any reported issues. customer service is very important to us. Seems like most of the 'issues' we have experienced are packaging related issues which result in inconvenience more than anything, nonetheless we deeply apologize for any inconvenience our packaging issues have caused or for any missed expectations in terms of service level. We are constantly taking corrective and preventative measures internally to improve our service and we stand behind our products.
2) an important point to note about the KW kit is that it is available with a you-tune big-blower C38 option that will easily make upwards of 400-500hp.
what is maximum possible upgraded hp with the other kits? and how much of their kit needs to be replaced to achieve that? KW just requires you to replace the blower and injectors+pump when you want to upgrade or you can just order it with the big blower option now if you wanted.
3) utlimately we are confident in the design, quality, and performance of our kit and we realize that time and happy customers will be the true test. my personal belief is that as time progresses you will see the KW kit gap the field. hopefully all the spin and misleading information in the BroScience gone wild thread wont color the views of the unsophisticated and uninitiated.
