Well I know on my Tacoma and my 4runner, both manuals, I had a clutch start cancel button. You push that and it allows you to start it without the clutch pushed in. I had a remote start installed and wired that button to be on all the time and it worked great. Just had to remember to never leave it in gear haha.

Which is exactly the problem.

If you live in an area with hill or have to park on someone's drive way, it's almost certain that you will have to leave your car in gear from time to time.

Remote start for manual, while may sound cool, it's a very very bad idea if there are no way for the ignition system to check whether your car is in gear or not.

My friend's manual Accord had a remote start wired to his car... He pressed onto it on accident when he was visiting his friend.

The car jerked forward, launch it self through his friend's garage, into the garage, while it was less than a a feet from hitting his friend's brand new altima.

I had remote start on my wrx but I had it tapped into the NPS (neutral position sensor) and clutch signal wire. That ensured that the car would not remote start if left in gear. I have not checked to see if the twins have that NPS sensor wire available or not though. If it did, should be easy to wire it up. Only issue is I don't like bypassing the immobilizer.

http://www.mobileedgeonline.com/can-...-transmission/ check this out, highly suggest getting a professional/ your dealer too. If the dealer does it and there is an issue from them doing you are still covered by warranty but if someone else does it and makes any incorrect decisions and caused an issue, you are on the hook

Hope this helps

you just need the remote start to be set in manual mode with a door switch pluged in. You then start the procedure with the car running, hand brake on, then press the start button on the remote to trigger the remote start system which is going to take over the ignition, you remove the key get out of the car, stop it with the remote and then the car is ready to remote start. ( Yes its a PITA but its secure)

On my 2g DSM 5mt I had to follow a simple procedure each time I got out of the car. This was with a Viper remote start/security/turbo timer setup.

- Park the car with foot on brake and car in neutral
- Set the Parking Brake, with foot still on brake
- Once PB is set, let off the brake
- Get out of the car, shut the door
- Press a button on the remote which told the computer the car was in neutral with the PB set.
- Remote start the car as needed

It's entirely possible with the right system, but like someone else said, unless you have a lot of experience wiring these this is a job best left to the pros. Mine was...

I agree I parked a manual in neutral with parking break on and will never make that mistake again. My neighbors still think I'm nuts.

I have a remote starter on my FRS...Works great

The process to set it up:
- Pull e-Brake
- Double click "lock" button on remote with key + car still on
- Remove key
- Get out of car, click "lock" as you walk away (shuts car off)

To start the car:
- Push the "remote start" button the remote

Dealer price was ~$400....got it thrown in for free when I picked up the car...Must have mod for me with these winters!

Edit: You have to leave it in neutral - but it will NOT lurch forward or try to start if you leave it in gear...it detects it's in gear and just does nothing when you push the button

I thought I saw the MT under location.

I'm curious if anyone uses remote start and parks on a fairly steep hill?

I've always drove manuals and always fantasized about jumping into a warmed up car, but leaving in neutral on a hill gave me one very bad experience. This cars parking break feels strong and I know it there was some design for drifting. Maybe I should give it a shot?

You dont park in neutral at a hill or any slope.....where is your logic ?

You park in both gear and brake .

You park in neutral at common neutral ground, no slopes, no hills.
