In an open tuning environment (when people can make any change to any part of the ROM), there is an inherent risk with allowing for partial writes. This is not an issue when you are operating in a closed environment which, in a sense, can protect you from erasing/moving code necessary for communications. Until we can assure that there is no risk of a customer bricking their ECU, we will write the entire ROM. Yes, it takes a 3-4 minutes longer than doing a partial write. But it's a lot safer and will undoubtedly keep people (including some tuners) from disabling vehicles. These are all very big concerns for is given the scale of our customer base. We do encourage customers to custom tune themselves for with the help of experienced tuners. But along those lines, we also implement safety protocols to minimize (not to eliminate) risk of nonrecoverable hardware failure.

Good to hear insight from other tuners with OFT. Its a shame, because I've been asking about flex fuel, other F/I applications, and e85 starting issues, and haven't gotten 1 reply from either Shiv or through their support staff in emails... Seems like all they really care about is selling another tablet from what I take it.
Very discouraging. |

Cold start is going to be a function of temp and ethanol formation. If it's higher than 85%, it will definitely give you cold start difficulties regardless of ambient temp. One suggestion is to try running the revised cranking enrichment table values as prescribed by others who have solved similar problems. There really isn't much more for me to do on this end since we have not experienced those issues ourselves with our local E85 fuel source.

Maybe I misunderstood something previously or missed a post saying I needed to purchase hardware to support OFT as a tuner. I have had a number of people contact me requesting custom tuning using OFT, and FI tuning on OFT. This is why I have asked you about logging a number of times via PM, posts, and phone calls. Are you saying I need to purchase a tablet to ask a question about your platform in "open"? I don't see why your post was warranted vs just simply answering the question at hand that both me and @jamesm had. Both of us are attempting to support your platform but I cannot seem to get ahold of you or get any answers. Maybe there is a specific email I should be using instead? At this point you are making it more than difficult to attempt to support this platform and are making me lean more and more towards simply respond to people with something such as "If you want any custom tuning you will need to sell the OTS, or have shiv tune it for you".

I wouldn't call it auto recovery, but I accidently did this when I got the tablet and I was able to be fully recovered in less than 20 minutes.... after I finished freaking out and worrying about having to get the car towed for a bricked ECU. I just had to reflash the stock map and I was good from there.

Yes, the OFT does have a recovery mode that should recover an incomplete right. But it's not something I recommend testing.
