Kraftwerks Supercharger Owners Thread
So I finally put on the bumper and drove the car for the first time with the SC installed. Did anybody have any bumper fitment issues? It seems like the FRS grill (not the two air duct things on the side which I removed) is right up against the IC and I'm as much as 1/4 inch off a good number of fasteners underneath the car. Kind of annoying.
Anyway, for the drive. First thing I noticed was the whine. It is quite loud and while cool sounding I'm pretty sure I'll be looking into the clogged idler, smooth belt, or whatever it would be that makes that noise a little less obtrusive. Not sure if it is the factory KW tune that is to be blamed or is it that I just need to relearn how to drive with a SC installed, but it isn't very smooth on initial take off in 1st. I've played around with different amounts of throttle but still it is rather hurky-jerky. Feels like the bog feel with a giant air conditioner on full blast in a small displacement engine but about a magnitude worse. But once it is past about 3000 RPM up to redline WOW is it fun. Not sure how many HP my buttdyno is registering but here is a significant amount of power there and it just keeps climbing. The bypass sound is also very cool sounding yet subtle. Didn't want to push it too hard since it was my first drive. So is anybody else still on the KW factory tune? |

If you get a custom tune your tuner should be able to make it much more smooth in the lower range. Mine feels great all the way through the gears.

Can you guys elaborate the benefits of the front pipe, over pipe with KW kit and catback exhaust if any?
I've searched but couldn't find the exact answers. From my previous experience with other boosted cars (2 Stis and Evo X) as well as the Corvettes ..catbacks never really made a big difference in terms of power..and IIRC, someone was mentioned that the headers don't make big difference either (until 6500 rpm).. I was hoping to be able to use the Forester oem oil cooler when I get this kit but it seems like the clearance might be an issue also.. hopefully the new KW oil cooler kit solves this problem since I have no intent to spend $600 for a simple oil cooler

Absolutely doesn't have oem smoothness. But it doesn't surge a ton, most of the time it's smooth, just not 100% of the time. Noticed a bit of bogging at first. Didn't take long to get used to. |

mit_peid's photo of the KW install suggests to me Forester oil cooler will fit. Looks like KW pulley mounting bolt is a little lower than the oil filler cap and won't interfere with the cup at the top of the oil cooler.

Should be installing the KW/S2 engine oil cooler this weekend if everything lines up. I'll take detailed pics when I get it. However, keep in mind it is not going to be the full production kit. It'll likely be near exact though.
