vs Stock intake + KN filter (last one) I did several times. and results were repeatable. more turbulence with perrin inlet than stock intake! so WOT AFR was much more stable with stock intake after test, I remove perrin inlet and go back to stock intake . I'll have something close to what you're asking for. Having a dyno done on March 8th with the trd intake and Nameless header back exhaust. I have a previous dyno with the exhaust and perrin intake tube & drop in to compare. All will be on stock tune.

If I'm reading that^^ correctly it looks like the TRD intake offers pretty good torque gains at low end engine speeds. Considering I want to keep my warranty intact and prefer low end power to high end, I think the TRD is going my my list. Some CAI Systems (Perrin) only provide gains at +4krpm and actually reduce low end torque. I could care less about 2whp at 6k. Drivability in stop and go traffic seems like a much more practical performance improvement. It's somewhat surprising to me that everyone only seems to care about peak tq and hp.
Who has the best price on the TRD intake? Would the car benefit or require a tune with this intake? |

On Ebay you can find it for $365 shipped. I don't have a tune but after it was installed I did notice a difference. |

Thanks! Yeah I'm seeing one for $350 shipped. Not bad.
What rpm range do you notice the biggest difference? I'll be installing my Perrin catback today. Hopefully I'll notice a change in performance; ideally on the low end. I had my BRZ serviced yesterday at my local Subaru dealer. I was talking to the service manager about what would void the warranty. He said that intakes can be iffy but since TRD is toyota it shouldn't be a problem. Then we were talking about the Crawford performance 450hp BRZ. Crawford had it in for some kind of ECU flash or something like that. He got to drive it briefly and said the thing was damn near undrivable at low city speeds. I thought that was interesting. |

Had the dyno today. Picked up 5 peak whp, with good gains low, and moderate gains in mid range. This is being compared to a previous dyno with Perrin inlet tube and drop in k&n. I'll post up the dyno later today.
Peak HP 176 compared to 171. No gain in peak torque. Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk |

To give a little context. I removed the main resonator attached to the air box on the initial dyno that seemed to have an effect on the a/f ratio. Other 86's were run with that first dyno and a car on e85 tune with nameless exhaust (same as my set up) hit 180whp, and another with fa20club el header plus intake and tune hit 180whp. My car has nameless downpipe w/ high flow cat, and Axel back on both runs. What differs is Perrin inlet hose and drop in filter on one and TRD intake on the other. The outlier is an auto FRS with only nameless axleback and drop in hit 167 whp. Search Richmond dyno day results for other dynos. I already have the sound tube removed.
Does this TRD intake sound different, or are most of you just noticing the sound tube delete? |
