Not sure how you can fit a torque wrench over the Fumoto anyway, I had to use a crescent on it.

Anyway, I went with tighten by hand, then tighten with crescent for another quarter. Done. Oil pans and the Fumoto are pretty strong - it'll take plenty of abuse, so just get it on tight and watch for leaks over the next few days. If it leaks, tighten it some more. If it doesn't, call it a day.

you have the fumotive valve on for how long now? any leaks?

I've had mine for about 3000 miles now and not a single leak at all.

It's kinda hard to initially get it to thread but once you get it, it screws in nice and smooth. Make sure you give it plenty of torque when you tighten it. There is a crush washer on the new valve that must be crushed. Remember, you will probably never have to remove it again. Other than that, its a pretty straight forward oil change.

You're lucky yours ended up with the lever on top lol. I torqued mine down and the lever ended up kind of diagonal/downward :T

Not really a clearance issue but just makes more sense to have it away from the ground

Speaking off-roading in an 86, I actually have to drive on all types of uneven & unpaved rural roads.. rocky, dirty, muddy, & grassy. Just a consequence of having too many friends/family that live out in rural areas. I've even has to swerve off a 2-lane road one time to avoid some debris at a pretty high speed.. ended up landing pretty hard in a flat grassy ditch but luckily there was an incline that came up back to the road & I managed to get back on the road with just a few scratches on my bumper. All of this while never slowing below 40mph.

It was something I wouldn't want to do again of course, but just making a point.. I've had mines for about 30K miles, and my [nipple-less] Fumoto valve has yet to get loose, open, or even scratched.

The lever is sprung, so when the valve is in the closed position it's pushed into a 90° channel that locks the rotation. It would have to be lifted from the channel and then turned to open the valve. The lock ring clip simply prevents it from leaving the lock channel. I was paranoid about this at first, but after using the valve I believe it's unnecessary for 99% of users.

I agree, I just did my first oil change after installing the valve and I don't forsee it ever opening up on the road or off..

I did this on Sunday, and my fumoto valve did not open. So I would rest assured that it shouldn't be a problem. I am NOT using the locking ring either.
Fast forward to about 1:00.... Ended up something like 200 ft out in the mud.
