Are you really wanting to use the extra overhead the 3582 offers...thats rated for 650 hp right? built block right there, tranny swap, rear axle and diff...thats a good 20k in parts, then add labor, if you wanted to use the 3582 for its full potential. unless you have future track only plans for it, I wouldnt, but thats just me! By no means am i as knowledgeable about what will suffice for a DD at 550+ whp.

The low boost and lag is horrible.

Although hard to believe from a 2.0L, from the posts it appears this motor spools "big" turbos pretty quickly. Enough said. End of story. No need for a small turbo.

Thanks for the responses.

I love the td04, sure its not going to break any record buts its fun. I have a really tired one on the back shelf at my shop and I'll admit I held it in the engine bay when I made my manifold. Those little guys with a big down pipe sound great.

beyond that, you have the overhead to produce craaaaaazy power on e85 should you choose to. larger turbos are also easier on drivetrain parts, as they tend to ramp in the torque curve more progressively than a smaller turbo. lots of immediate torque at low rpm does little more than turn tires into vapor and break stuff.

so there are lots of reasons, and having bought a 'small' turbo (gtx2867r) and tuned larger ones, i'll be swapping mine out for something much larger very soon. the benefits far outweigh any perceived drawback, most of which are just a consequence of applying common knowledge that doesn't apply to the fa20. this engine breaks rules.
Thanks. A very informative post. What I was asking for.

Same here. Felt like V8 power instant torque. No sense of lag at all really on the 2.5L. Not looking to break records, just looking to make some nice usable power without having to upgrade the fuel system, drive train, etc.

Honestly I like to drive not work on broken cars or drop my 401k into it

You mention cocky, Ill refer you to your original post. Something about enjoying lag something something.

I know who you are btw, we met a couple weeks ago and your "comments" during our Orlando 86 meet werent very thought out.

I will give you a thought. If you manage to make 300 whp with full spool at 2500 rpm let me know what size and brand tires you plan on hooking with.

Just because a turbo is good for 650whp doesn't mean it isn't great for less than that.

Ah right your car is the same color as a ZX6r I remember. Cool color. Anyways well share the knowledge? I'm just trying to learn about an FA20 on boost. It apparently doesn't have the lag issues of other subaru (EJ) motors. I get it now.

I'd imagine you need RS3's in 245+ or the like to hook up but would you not have the same issues @ 400-500 whp no matter what tire you use? Ever see a corvette tires yeah they are massive for a reason. My Dad has one and they still can spin.
