Don't think you should weld metal this thin (I could be wrong though). Considering it's just bent pipe with some soldered tabs, you'd think someone should be able to make an "OE" kit out of this with a fabbed up pipe replacement.

Anyone have any guesses of suppliers here that might be up for the task?

I suspect the pipe metal is not that thin, otherwise you run the risk of the pipe bending. In fact the mounting tabs you mentioned are welded on and not soldered. Soldering on pipes is usually to seal up a joint to prevent leaks, not to mount or attach metal.

I guess I'll just buy the part and try it out myself

however I do agree that I would like to see a shop make a better fitting one for us.

Those water pipes are now off backorder and there are some available in the warehouses. (14050AA970) 3 Available as of 1-17-14

I'm curious but does anyone know if the Forester XT oil cooler has a predefined "inlet" and outlet" that must be used in accordance with the coolant flow in this car? According to the Toyota EPC, the factory transmission cooler found on the automatic versions of this car change the lower hardline and introduce a coolant neck at the top, rear of the block for plumbing to the transmission cooler. I'm wondering if these lines could be leveraged to run the oil cooler on manual transmission cars? I wonder if that's how the STI Concept is plumbed as it seems there are no lines running across the front of the block.

I also noted a themostat equipped in the same coolant neck used for the transmission cooler. Would this be needed/beneficial to install?

Also, does anyone know what oil cooler the STI Concept is using? It's not the same as the Forester unit despite having the same tray at the top, evident on new Subaru top mount OE oil coolers. Is there another car that employs this same option?

I ordered everything from the first page, and it all went together as described. Needed 2 jugs of coolant to refill the system and fooled around withe the heater hose at the firewall until I was happy, but otherwise a very simple install.

all you have to do is follow the first post. it's been on my car with no issues since the original posting.

others were concerned with the hose routing or splicing into existing lines instead of buying pieces, but the original way works!

Car Quest Auto Parts is a great source for heater hose.

NAPA, Advance Auto Parts as well are options.

My heater hose pipe is part number 14050AB090 but is otherwise identical to what everyone else has.

I'll be installing tomorrow but wanted to document this for comparison.
