They replace the factory horns. You can put them in the same spot or put them up front (like me)

Bummer. I actually wanted to create a "stepped" activation where a momentary press of the horn button would activate the factory horns for a polite, "wake up please, the light changed" but holding it for a second or so would make the louder horns kick in for more of a "wake the hell up and move jackass!" kind of effect.
I can still do it, just not using that harness as a base.

I agree with the first post. I could yell louder than this horn! My acura TL had pretty nice loud horns. Maybe I could find some of them. I'm a little confused. You can just plug in most horns into the OEM wires? Or anything a little bigger needs a harness?

I drive a fire truck at work. It has air horns that will peel paint and pierce eardrums, because emergency vehicles are permitted to mount these devices in locations that are not legal for most vehicles. I use the air horns (as they are intended) for pedestrians on their iPods in crosswalks and inattentive drivers who are clueless that a 30 ton emergency vehicle is bearing down on them.
Having a similar horn on my BRZ would be entertaining, but unnecessary.

In the photo above... that's a bad location to place the horns.

Grover stutterers will definitely clear a path for you - even better than the siren - but I'm retired now.

I haven't addressed the horn on the FRS, but I did put an airhorn on my '05 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad 1600D. The OEM horn on it was pathetic, and on a bike you need either loud pipes or a loud horn. BTW, the airhorn is rated at 130 db.

I think the FRS could benefit from a nice loud horn - but come to think of it, I haven't used the horn on mine yet and I don't know what it sounds like!

My son has a train horn on his monster truck, 150db, and you need a compressor and air tank to run it. Yeah, it's loud.

Sorry to dig this thread up, but did this require any special wiring or was it just plug and play?

I can tell you from first hand experience just fooling with mine this past weekend. The lo-pitch stock horn (stuck back up behind the headlights) has only one connector and grounds thru its mounting bracket...so there's only 1 wire going to it.

The hi-pitch stock horn (mounted down under the bumper behind the grill) has 2 wires going to it in a harness (one hot and one ground) so it doesn't ground to its mounting bracket.

I moved the lo-pitch stock horn to the bracket holding the hi-pitch so they both were in the same location and facing forward out of the grill.

I extended the single wire from the original location of the lo-pitch to its new location using a couple feet of wire with a slide-on connector on one end and a spade connector on the other.

Make sure you rough up where the brackets bolt together to ensure a good ground for the lo-pitch...my first attempt gave weird results with an intermittent connection. After putting some lock washers that would dig into the brackets I'm getting a good ground now and both horns operate correctly.

I also went so far as to get a new lo-pitch horn (same one as in my old celica). The stock horns are kind of tuned together, so putting in a horn not tuned to the first one gives a semi-grating noise that gets your attention.

Taking off the 2 panels under the bumper will give you adequate access to the horns without taking off the bumper...unless you just want to take off the bumper.

So, to answer your question, if you get some junkyard horns and want to mount them in the stock positions with the stock harness, then you'll need to get one with a single connector and one with the double connector (or rig the original double connector harness to a single connector horn). The stock horns on this car sound a lot louder outside the car than they do from inside, so take that into account.

I'm sure this is clear as mud now.

Reminded me of this bumper sticker.
There's your cheap solution. Don't use the horn. HA!

You could out a semi horn by simply running air hair hose from you spare to the cabin, then back into the engine bay, there's plenty of place for it. You won't have too many "toots" but it'll be genuine.
