Thanks. What club are you running at Sebring with in March? I'll be there the weekend after the 12 hour with Chin.

Street driving? Virtually none. The tires shouldn't even get warm street driving unless you're running a lot of toe.

NT01's degrade more slowly from heat cycles than a RS3, unless you completely cook em.

I don't see how you can say Rivals are so much worse than ZII's, they're pretty similar in performance from what I've seen.

Toyo R1R's will be fast at first, but fall off in a big hurry. They heat cycle out so quickly, and suffer from Tread squirm, you're really best off shaving them down to 3-4/32nds and going from there.

I think Rivals are fine, they are fast from day 1 at full tread to the end of the life on the cords, and everything in between. They handle the heat just fine for me, I don't think you're going to find any 140-200 treadwear tire that is going to be much better.

Nitto NT01's are more of a competition tire, and will not last as long as any of the other options (100 treadware tire I think).

However, my Nitto NT01's CHUNKED in competition use after only a few races on my Neon, and when I asked Nitto if they would replace them, they told me to eat a penis. I wouldn't reccomend the Nitto's. I think Rivals will work just fine.

Rivals are acceptable for AutoX use, but are NOT competitive on track.

I know more than a handful of people who chucked em after 1 day of use.

Well If Nitto's chunked on a 2475bs car including driver, they're going to chunk on a 2700lbs car + driver as well I bet.

Although an FR-S will punish the four tires more evenly than the Neon did....

If you're chunking, you're REALLY overheating the tires. Do you have pyrometer readings from that day?

I'd have to go back and check my notes. The car was limited in front camber that year, and that was obviously the issue. But several people at my track have had this issue with these tires, and the reason why we've moved our spec tire to Hoosier SM6's (R6's).

Honestly if you want the best all out performance, just buy the Hoosiers, and hope it doesn't rain on your drive home.

How long ago did you have the NT01s? I had a set on my race Miata and they were amazing.

If you don't run them REALLY hard, you're probably okay...

Our track doesn't really have a long straight to help with tire cooling.

I still have the 3 that didn't chunk.

Here's a video from the car on NT01's chasing down a turbo 911 ...maybe I'm over-driving, you be the judge.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFP2TTG0qYg"]Sean Grogan The Banana 95 Neon ACR Waterford Hills Road Raci - YouTube[/ame]

A tire you may want to consider is the Toyo R888

Similar to the NT01, but we never ran into chunking issues.... Probably half a second slower than the NT01 (NT01 is faster if shaved), but the tread design will work in the wet. R888 offers tremendous driver feedback as well, it's very audible in the car, and you always know when you're on the limit. These tires wear like Iron as well.....for what you lose in lap times compared to a NT01 or Toyo RA1 (same tire as NT01), you make up in longevity.

The FR-S ran the same lap times (Front sway, air filter exhaust, and stoptech pads only) on BFG Rivals as my Neon did on the NT01's, 1.22.0xx
Neon ran 1'22.5xx on R88's, and has run 1'20.5xx on R6's.

but to my knowledge. in scca, r1r will be banned after this year due to the "tread rating". unless they decide to "reprint" their ratings

Thanks. What club are you running at Sebring with in March? I'll be there the weekend after the 12 hour with Chin.
I'm hoping to do the NASA event the 29-30 in my s2000. I won't know until Monday if I can do it though, but my fingers are crossed. I'm bummed I'm missing out on Sebring, but I'll be up in GA at the Dixie National Tour with SCCA in a BRZ.

I've been to a few chin events just to hang out and grab a few rides, and while everyone is very nice, it scares me that there are basically novices running around with Hoosiers on their Corvettes. It was hilarious watching them slow-poke around corners, then jump on the throttle for the long straight between 16-17.
I like that more people run streeties with NASA, as it lowers the speed differentials.

I think a Novice in a Corvette is going to drive corners like that, regardless of club. I have been to almost every Chin Sebring event for the past 2 years, and haven't seen any brand new novices with slicks? Chin is a very safe club to run with; well vetted instructor core, and they'll quickly pull any driver off track who they think is endangering themselves or others. Not only that, but they are a VERY fast club to run with. There are guys who come from PCA, BMWCCA, etc "advanced" groups and can't even keep up with the pace with the Chin intermediate group. Probably the reason why there is usually 1 or 2 GrandAm/IMSA teams testing with Chin at each event.

From what I have heard from some NASA drivers that I'm friends with, NASA FL seems to be drying up a bit since Felton took the helm, and have lost a few events this year on their calendar to low attendance.

I've heard that Chin is the east cost Speed Ventures... I'd love to have a friendly DE meetup in the middle... Topeka raceway or COTA?

I'm just dreaming...

Novices with DOT-R and Hoosiers is all too common...

Yeah they are. Chin just expanded to central US, and how has about 40 events on their calendar this year.
