Sorry, I wrote that early in the morning before I had my Methadone - yes dry sump.

One of the big issues with the new 3.8 Flat 6 Porsche is putting in their new 911s is they are all "Integrated Dry Sumps". Whatever in the hell that is suppose to mean.

Most of us would rather see the life of the 3.6 liter derived GT1 engine live on and on but the replacement is this engine called the 9A1. I mean take all the provenance out of it won't cha`?

Which brings to question how much bigger can you make this engine? Sharkworks, an after marker tuner for Porsche motor coaches, has a kit they install that takes the GT1 engine from the GT3 motor and bumps it up to 500 horsies from 3.6L to 3.9L plus an extra 200 RPMS. They won some super prestigious award for aftermarket tuners too for their class. There are other kits out there that go up to 4.0L and 4.1L but none of them have the Mass of kits installed and running flawlessly on American roads. Besides the larger engines are derivatives of IMSA or whatever engines to the reliability isn't really there.

But the furthest thing from my mind at the moment is pulling the motor and cracking it open to up the displacement. I just want some nice and neat installation spitting out 275WHP-285WHP. And if you know any one who can do that for me let me know.

I really need a reason to buy an Air Compressor and some impact wrenches.

Oiling will always be a disadvantage on boxer style motors due to gravity. The older EJ motors did not use a upper pan and relied solely on the lower pan.

Under extreme load, G's and acceleration. The oil is pumped to the heads and whipped around not giving it a chance to return to the pan fast enough.

I believe the OEM have figured that out and that is why the FA motors have an upper and lower pan to keep the oil supply near the moving parts.

The upper pan is also very wide compared to the lower pan. There for, it is recollecting oil a lot easier than the EJ did.

The EJ20 has a 4.8qt capacity and the FA20 has 5.8qt capacity for an NA motor. That is a clear indication that subaru realized there was an oiling problem on their early design.
