Completed install of 1.42 Stage 2 Gas ZA1JA01D, Engine seems quieter, no more lurching between automatic shifts (FA20club Stage 2b5 tune) smoother engine both at idle and WOT.

I followed the procedure for v1.50, the buttons are grayed out, darn.

I'm just curious, have all of the big name tunes suffered from drive-ability compared to Shiv's tunes? What I mean by that is, did they all just focus on adding the RaceRom features and adding some advanced (which is probably why there are tons of ECUtek cars running around with .5 - .79 IAM) without taking care to make the motor run as smoothly as possible? I guess they were all content with the factory stumbles. I must say, Shiv's improvements to the refinement of the motor alone make it worth the purchase of an OFT. Even if it only had 200 Crank HP, it is still how the car should have come stock (and the bump in power is of course what we all have been looking for).

i think it has a lot to do with the fact that most OFT users (actually, all of them that use OTS maps) have stock injectors and near-stock or stock intake. that alone greatly simplifies drivability tuning. most if not all of the guys having issues are on e85 and/or have big injectors and aftermarket FI. i'll give credit where credit is due though, the logs from the e85 ots tunes look great, better than an e-tune.

Go ahead and email your "stock" rom. Since it's an ecutek "stock" ROM, it's not actually stock. But I can put it in the v1.54 database so that the OFT will recognize it and auto generate maps for you.

And going forward, we are working on a solution for those will old 700 and 900 series ROMs (and Ecutek "stock" roms) that will allow you to update to a 100% stock ROM prior to OFT installation. This way everyone can take advantage of the new .dev file functions and be on level playing field in all respects.

Glad you are enjoying our tunes!

Cheers,
shiv

Thanks for the kind words There is really no black magic involved with tuning as anyone can see if they look at our open .bin maps. Just takes time to get things as right as possible. Nothing will ever be absolutely perfect, all of the time. But if you understand the nature of engine-to-engine variance (and know in what areas they deviate), you can actually put together a very sound OTS map that works 90% in 99% of all cars. Just as long as users stick to premium fuel and have mechanically sound cars, it's all good. What's nice about this platform is that all the cars are relatively new so all the engines are in good health. Also helping is that these engines are NA so you don't introduce other variables like turbos/wastegates/etc,.

To be fair, a tune from the company who makes the CAI should be scaled properly for the CAI.

To switch back on topic to e85 maps for the OFT, I need a little help deciding if my next tank will be 93 or e85. I love the power of e85, but I am getting about ~20-21mpg (which doesn't worry me since I am getting ~25-27mpg with 93). Fuel is $3.18 vs $3.68 IIRC. Yesterday and today it was below 10 degrees leaving for work and it took two tries each time to get the car fired.

Edit: It took me way too long to write that (I guess that is what happens when you are at work). @shiv@vishnu, the words are well deserved. The motor isn't the most refined stock, but it is nice. With the tune, it is one of the most refined engines I have driven and we have a multi-year winning Ward's 10 best engines from 2011 in the driveway.

Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda, having experienced the CAI & the EL Header from FA20club.com with their Stage 2b5 tune , I believe better days are ahead, and the bolt-ons will exhibit their true potential going forward.
