Make sure they have the parts ordered and waiting for you before you go. And if you like them to take their time and get it done right, don't sit there and wait for it, drop it off so they have all day.

I specifically requested they order the parts ahead of time - which the service rep seemed to mind (why the hell would I show up before you have the parts??). I will *not* be leaving the car with them. I have the day off and will stay because last time I dropped it off it came back with 30 miles more for them to say my car doesn't have any rattles and has no transmission issues.

Haha 30 miles?? Damn that's a long joy ride. People like that give us all a bad name. I personally don't drive cars unless I have to, time is money to me!

I can confirm that Subaru has the same TSB. I was at the dealership in Saint John all of about 3 mins and had the parts ordered. I did not get a copy of the TSB, but he did show it to me and it was specifically mentioned that the new window switches reduce the door-open window travel from 20mm to 10mm.

Us BRZ guys are better off cuz Subaru techs have experience with frameless windows. Good luck to the FR-S brothers.

VIN cut off:

Outer weatherstrip D*609749
Revised window switches D*609511
Guide door lifter D*609385
My windows freeze, and I'm outside the VIN range... (D*6106xx - May 2013 build).

Just because it's out of the vin range doesn't necessarily mean it has the revised parts. The way Subaru determine the vin range is really a guess. Only way to find out for sure is to take it in and have them physically check the parts.

Good thing too, I was observing last week how bad of a design the weatherstripping was, it just collects ice.

I think subaru should come up with a better solution for these frameless windows. A switch in the cabin to turn on "freezing mode" when the temperature outside gets too cold, the outer windows don't automatically roll down would be one. Another would be a heated weather strip. Also this car should come with a front windshield wiper heater (as an option at least) like other subaru's have.

Someone please find a link to the subaru TSB so I can print it and show them when they inevitably play dumb and "that's normal"

Was in for my 15k service today and asked the service guy about this TSB. He told me they wouldn't do anything about it unless I brought it to them frozen shut and stuck and let them have it for a while for testing.

Good to hear about this TSB.
Less than a month ago I scraped all the ice off my window. opened the door and closed it.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw a thin black strip appear on my window.
I realized what it was and squealed like a little girl.
The felt on the weather strip all ripped off the rubber and stuck to my window.
I scraped them off the window and saved them for my dealership to look at.

I just showed up and they fed me a line about no parts availability til March. Then why the fuck did I give you a week of lead time to order them? So you could NOT tell me you can't get the parts?

Contrary to whats been said, I do not find this TSB to be self-explanatory as to what it covers.

The door windows on this car are a bit of a mongolian-cluster-F**k and it is hard to tell what issues this does cover.

I have the situation where, in cold weather, the door glass jig where it goes "down-up" as you open and close the door, get abbreviated to "down and stay down".

If not caught, this invites all kinds of outside environment into your car; like snow and rain.

Not sure if it is covered by this TSB or not? Sounds more like for windows that are stuck in a fashion that the switch wont raise the glass.
