What are some of the lightest wheel options?

Keep in mind that smaller wheels will require higher-profile tires, and the trade-off will be in tire flex. Also, lighter isn't always better. Yes weight closer to the middle is better, but wheels of the same size and weight may be different as well due to the process used to manufacturer. Generally, forged wheels are strong and light. Cast wheels can maybe weigh the same as forged wheels of the same size, but won't be as strong. For our cars, best performance would be either 17x8 or 17x9 for N/A engines. 18s would look the best in my opinion. 16s are just too small and 19s are just too big (again, IMHO).

Smaller wheels don't REQUIRE larger profile tyres.

Nothing stopping you running a 40 or 45 profile on a 16 or 15.

225/45/16 is not a rare tyre.

Lots of semi compounds in that size too.

If staying NA, trawl the Honda forums on tyre reviews. They know to stay small.

Think of the 86 as a rear wheel drive type-r, not a non turbo silvia.

I run those in 17x7.5. They have held up well and look great. The wheels came individually weighed and came in around 14.8lbs or so. Probably about the best you'll do without spending $500+/wheel or buying used.

Also, that size is 3% too small, which is a lot.

225/50x16 is more common.

Over here finding the 16x7 wheels will be tricky enough.

It probably can be done but the why is an interesting question since those OZ rims are so light and there are a number of available 17 inch tires suitable for those wheels.

Tirerack seemed to have quite a few good choices in 225/50R16, Rivals, ZII's, AD08 R's, RE11A's and RS-3's, DW's for those less concerned with dry grip. i agree 16x7 or even 7.5 with a decent offset are tricky to find in north america.

Most tires are 22+ lbs.... usually the ultra high performance weigh more due to sidewall reinforcement. Its pretty easy to buy a wheel 2-5 lbs less than stock but end up at nearly the same or more overall weight when you get the high performance tires. I was ecstatic to drop 3+ lbs per corner with weds tc105n 17x9 (15-16 lbs per) and continental ECDW 245 width tires. Looking for 16s but haven't found a reasonable option.

Volk SE37K 17x7.5" with Achilles 205/40/17 semi slick. 14.705kg, 32.42lbs.

They're 'okay' but not great. An R888 or Nt01 is a much better semi slick.

The 123s has more grip in a straight line that a decent wide road tyre, but about the same lateral grip. That could be a because of the lack of sidewall in this size.

They're a good introduction to a semi slick, but are not really a semi slick. If that makes any sense.

Just did a trial fit of these wheels on the car tonight.

15"x7" with a 35 offset. and only 4.8 kg. 10.5 pounds or so.

They only JUST clear the caliper as you can see in the photos. I think a light shave with the grinder and things will be fantastic.

we used these wheels on our chumpcar but are going to something wider this coming season.

Just weighed my ssr's, lighter than the se37ks. Tyre must be heavy though, wheel is supposed to be 1.6kg lighter than the volk, but total weight is only .6kg less.

I didn't know the wheels were coming with tyres. Seller through them in. I'll skid them away and then weight the wheel on its own. It's supposed to weigh 4.9kg
