What are some of the lightest wheel options?
I'm not good with wheels and brands and whatnot. Hoping people could post some ideas or threads that talk about the lightest options available. I also get confused on what happens when you change the size/width. I'm thinking about doing 17in so same as stock, and then maybe same width but get stickier tires. But it'd also be nice to get a bit wider wheels/tires I guess.

Enkei RPF1's have been the proven choice by so many for lightweight performance. At only 16lbs!? per wheel, youll gain better accel/braking/and handling all in one. Dont forget to replace your stock lugs with lighter ones also. Losing that unsprung rotating mass from each corner reaps huge benefits.
http://www.frsport.com/RPF1-Wheel-17...FTJp7Aod5TsAZw Changing the size of the wheels, affects your tire size choices directly. Me personally, id keep the stock set with the tires it came with, and put them on during the foul weather season and/or long drives. Save the more expensive (grippier) tires for when you are actually driving to DRIVE. Wider tires will give you more grip compared to the same tire that lays less rubber on the road. You -could- get more grip out of a skinnier tire.. but you'd have to pay for a stickier compound. Read- less tire life.

Check out this thread for a long list of wheels with weights: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11454
Your options will be limited by your budget. If you have the money, forged Volks have been the standard for lightweight wheels. If you don't want to blow your entire budget on forged wheels, Enkei RPF1s are a good compromise, but get ready to be flamed by some as they're pretty common. |

If you want ligher, go smaller.
There is no performance gain at all running 18's. Its for looks. Get 16x7 or 16x8. Weigh less, weight closer to centre. If 205-225 road tyre is not giving you enough grip, use a semi. If semi is not enough grip, use a race slick. |

Yea good point. But wondering how 16s would look. I'll see if I can find some pics. Don't want to go up to 18s for sure.

Maybe get some 16 in BBS wheels, and then get higher profile tires to make the wheel/tire diameter the same as the stock wheel/tire diameter, for speedo/gear ratio purposes.

The Kosei K4R is a great option: 17x8, +36mm offset, 15.6lbs, Less than $800 for a full set of 4...use with the stock tires and you will drop 5lbs a corner.
16" wheels would be a nice choice, but tire selection is horrible in 16" while 17" has about the best selection of any tire diameter and are less expensive than 16" tires.

Agree, 16" tyre selection is shit.
If you HAVE to stay 17", this was the lightest combo I came up with. Volk SE37K 17x7.5" with Achilles 205/40/17 semi slick. 14.705kg, 32.42lbs. I am selling these, but shipping to US would be cray cray. Going smaller & lighter.

Yea looking around today, I've also realized that there are not many 16inch wheels out there.
Found these O.Z. wheels which I like. I'm thinking about doing white. http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...All&sort=Brand But whatever I get, maybe I could find some used wheels for cheaper but still in good condition. Last edited by dave77; 01-05-2014 at 10:03 PM. |

Huh?
My 18x8 "cheap" TSW Nurburgrings are at least 3lbs lighter (each) than the stock 17" rims. Bigger is not necessarily heavier. I also run a lower profile, so circumference gain is minimal, thus no perceptible performance loss, and less unsprung weight. |

IDK but here they say bigger diameter changes the gear ratio and makes the car slower.
