I was in this EXACT situation just a few weeks ago. I went with the Scion FRS 10 Series.

My 10 Series was 27,930 while a a white FRS was 26,950.

The difference of 980 dollars gave me....

1) Push to start
2) Dual Climate Control/Auto climate control
3) Smart Key Access
4) Automatic HID headlights

This ALREADY justified the extra 980 dollars.

I also get the exclusiveness as well.

Honestly, I really wanted the Pearl White BRZ, however the price was like 1 grand more than the FRS 10 Series. The difference would be just the color, but I couldn't justify the color for a grand more.

I also didn't want to order out of state because I really hate dealing with the DMV lol.

Also -- there are no good Subaru dealers near where I live, so would hate going in for service. My Toyota dealer is the best as I've bought 4 toyotas and service them there as well.

I would get the 2014. None of that stuff is worth 1000$. Spend the $$ on Aftermarket. And the fact that it's a '14 instead of a "13 should even things out for resale value.

The GT86 headlights are like $1900, not including the HID ballasts. Which the 10 series already comes with... For me the 10 series is the best buy.

The headlights alone already cost 2000 dollars if you wanted to add it.

^ Also, the '14 Pioneer 300W 6.1" touchscreen head unit, LED DRL's, frameless Rr view mirror, 10 Series cargo mat, numbered interior badge, electroluminescent interior panel and exterior locator badges.

Whether any of those add value is controversial here, but I think in total will help prop up resale above standard issue cars.

To be honest it depends on why you are buying the car. If you are buying it for "bragging rights", make it slick looking, etc. Then get the 10 series. If you are getting it because you are a true driving enthusiast then get the 2014. I say 2014 instead of the a stock 2013, because of the radio alone :-) I love driving, but I need to have some music and a half decent system. :-)

You comment makes no sense to me. Bragging rights? Push start/smart key, Dual HVAC, Daytime LED DRLs have more to do with actually driving the car than switching to a different radio. Not to mention the 10 already has the best radio you can get in a 86.

I didn't expect everyone to get it. It's like buying a Porsche GT3 vs. GT3RS. Or better yet, a GT 86 or a GT 86 RC.

BTW, 10 series and 2014 have the same HU. PT546-00140.

No kidding, you're point?

So if you get a regular FRS under the imagined pretense it's some sort of GT3RS and never track the car, who's the one getting a car for "bragging rights"?
