i got to drive a veloster today for a bit. Its actually a very nice car for the money. At first the photos made the car look sooooo ugly. Up close its not bad, even though its very busy..and there are alot of curves and edges that dont flow well. The car actually does look quite exotic in person.

Features are nice, and the ride is comfy. If i was a 19-23 year old student college again, or my daily commute to work was an hour long no traffic hwy (1.5 hours with traffic) like my previous job. This is definitely would have been the perfect car for me.

Would you say a BRZ/FRS fits it better than the Veloster? Or vice versa?

ahh.. probably the college student fits a bit better. The styling is pretty unique is jives well with the younger crowed. It was compact and seemed very practical for college life in both school function and social function. Definitely a car to pick up a girl in.

If you buy a FRS, at least participate in autoX and tell me the rear suspension and LSD are necessary. If you don't you are just spending $3000 more for low feature car.

HUH? 200 turboed-horsepower is quite a lot for small FWD car without LSD and only one spinning wheel. It is ass to drive in slippery conditions, like when it's raining or in winter. Especially automatic version. I think hyundai did go to the easiest way this time, just adding power and nothing else.

When it is raining maybe you shouldn't go full throttle with the steering wheel turned in one direction. Start out normally and when the steering is unwound apply more gas. In the pacific NW I have had no problems with 200hp FWD cars with no LSD.

edit: 1995 Eclipse GT-S, 2007 MINI Cooper S (not 200 hp but a lot of bottom torque at 198 lb-ft), 2010 GTI.

Looks good from the front to me.

The back looks like an optical illusion.

I don't buy sports cars to drive like a princess.

I know it doesn't make much difference on FWD, but a RWD car without an LSD is really painful to drive in the winter. If you're trying to just start moving and break traction with one wheel you're not going anywhere.
