whats the price?

If they somehow made a turbo track model, with brakes from the Gen coupe track, etc. I could see it doing well.

But I'm guessing it will only be a top of the line model, which means leather, sunroof, etc, and not the 2600lbs

Just a note but the turbo Veloster actually weighs ~2800 pounds not 2600.

So, it's got more horsepower and torque over the NA model but it also gained weight.

I think there is something else going on here with the veloster. You can't tell me or convince me that adding the turbo and all of it's components equals over 200 pounds of added weight....maybe 100 pounds.

SUB-FT86 01-09-2012 01:13 PM

The weight differs with content. The regular model is 2650 lbs until you add 150 lbs of options. So this model will have a range of weight also.

After looking at the pictures some more....It looks like a lot of the weight can be attributed to the glass roof.

They say the interior is motorcycle-inspired. I really want to sit in one. I'm currently watching a k-drama called City Hunter (based on an anime and Jackie Chan made it a movie). The main guy drives the NA version of this car... the first few scenes with this car were shot with limited close-up angles and I thought it was a supercar at first. The A-pillar and roofline are very GT-R-esque.

I hope they beefed up other components as well to handle the increased torque/power.

IF ONLY IT WERE AWD I'D TRADE IN MY CURRENT CAR RIGHT AWAY

Isn't it a 1.6L turbo? I don't want a juke engine.

Longhorn248 01-09-2012 03:30 PM

The commercial I saw the other day said this thing gets 40mpg highway. I didn't realize it was putting out those numbers too. Looks wise it's not bad.

Hyundai's 1.6L GDI turbo, not Nissan's or MINI's.

I think this will be a hit for Hyundai. I'm not sure there'll be much cross shopping between this and the FT86 due to the driven wheel difference, but none-the-less, given the price is competitive, it'll be another hot-hatch-ish.

...and tuned to run on regular gas.

Nope, sorry.

M/T = 2800 lbs
A/T = 2900 lbs

It spools like a boss though. Full boost @ ~1700 rpm.

Spaceywilly 01-09-2012 04:41 PM

the turbo still gets 38mpg highway. Pretty impressive
