If they had put a dual clutch auto in the new WRX I would be buying a 2nd car right meow.

Yeah I don't really get it, but it seems most Subie fans are willing to give up the UELs for a little more performance anyway, so I guess in the end it won't matter.

Just seems strange to me that they've been using UELs for awhile now, then all of a sudden decide to switch? I guess the previous WRXs just sounded too scary, or racecar-like for the normal person so they decided to make it boring.

Its always been fun hearing one around the corner and knowing what it was before even seeing it. Also disappointed to hear that it will be a sedan-only body style, seemed to me the hatch could have had the potential of looking much more interesting (its the sedan rear that makes it look like a corolla to me)

I'm not too disappointed in Subaru and the next gen WRX tho, I'd just call it typical Subaru: always coming up with awesome concept with exciting promises, start out with good intentions to appeal to mass market and produce a boring (but mostly good mechanicals) car, massively disappointing the core enthusiast, slowly improve over a couple iterations to make it up to the enthusiast, get rid of now-acceptable design once it has finally grew on you, come up with new disappointing design, rinse & repeat.
Yeah I could take the sedan-only, boring styling, CVT on a new WRX, but all of that combined PLUS the removal of the boxer rumble? That's a breaking point for me. Now when you hear a Subaru coming around the corner you won't even look, it'll just sound like any other turbo 4 cylinder.

Now theres this CVT talk, is that the 6 speed they were reffering too or is a standard 6 speed an option?

Im a subie fan boy myself, so UELs are a must.

In regards to uels, I guess thats what I love about the twins - UELs get better or equal performance for the most part.

As far as I know, they are introducing 2 new transmissions: a CVT with a sport# (sharp) mode that gives 8 "virtual" gears (since its a cvt) and a brand new 6-speed manual.

Also, I want that engine in the BRZ...

isn't the fact that the new WRX comes with EL headers irrelevant to the performance guys anyways, if there is demand for it the aftermarket will provide UEL headers for it. Just like for the FT86 platform/FA20. When you hear a distinctive boxer rumble of a Subie, chances are it's a modified Subie not a stock one.

Kind of. Like we said we are fanboys, lol. The main difference to me is before you could slap on basically any catback and have a loud rumble (it was still here stock, just very quiet), now you need headers too which is a much larger cost. On my sti before I was just going to get Grimmspeed PnP stock exhaust manifold versus spending bank on aftermarket headers which may eventually crack.

This x1000. I test drove a completely stock wrx a few months ago and I was still madly in love because I could still subtly hear that wonderful boxer rumble. And it was stock so it wasn't loud or drew attention, and everything was still covered by warranty. With the new one this is completely lost unless you want to spend time and money on aftermarket parts

How bad do heat cycles affect tire performance? As you may know I am in need of tires and came across some used rivals fs for 275 shipped. 5/32 tread left with about 40 autox runs and 1000 DD miles. Never had uhp tires before so I'm interested the check them out considering I don't commute anymore. If I could get another 7.5-10k miles on them I'd be happy considering money is a bit tight so this seems like a decent trade to forking over $500-$550 at the moment

Heat cycles make the tire hard and not as sticky. 40 heat cycles is a lot. But if your not trying to get the fastest lap at Laguna seca then you should be fine. Then again used regular tires w/O heat cycles would do the same trick. I thought they had some good deals in the tire shops in stocton? Craigslist always has deals for wheels and tires for $500. So take the wheels away. That's about $200-$300 for tires?

I'm the guy selling the tires that finch1750 asked about. The 40 AutoX runs are across 5 events, so the tires I'm selling only have 5 heat cycles (8 runs per event). Just wanted to clarify that for my selling purposes....
