Check my build thread (last page) - someone asked the same question. Very easy DIY I posted the link to in there

Only thing I did was get some of the newest version of Hankook's snow tires in the stock size for the stock wheels. I've driven in 3 - 4 inches of unplowed snow and had no issues going 45-50mph and passing stupid ass jeeps on the highway.

Would love to take mine out in the snow but I have a winter beater that's much more capable in snow and my BRZ is the first brand new car Ive ever owned so it sits in my garage under my car cover until late April most likely.

Check out the ends of the bristles. They are lighter in colour because they've been distressed during manufacture to soften the tips. They look partly used.

Or, check out the tips of the bristles with your hand. If they feel too spiky they will scratch the clearcoat.

Weight in the trunk is useless

I put 40 kg against the seatback in the trunk.

The only effect was to make the slides a little more exaggerated and a little harder to catch.

Useless.

The straight line acceleration from a standing start and the ability to climb hills or dig out of deep snow were unaffected.

Snow tires and the Torsen work the same with or without the extra weight. I.e. not very well.

I honestly have no idea how you have such a hard time with your car in the snow? I drove on wet shiny ice today without issue.

Very interesting drive today in the freezing rain...most of the roads were salted around 5pm in Richmond Hill today...but as I found out...even though salt/brine was applied to the main roadway (in this case Major Mac), the right/left turn lanes were untreated!

Coming upon a red light, enough room for me to squeeze in the right turn lane..first warning of fresh ice was when the tail end swung and thats when I tried the brakes and nothing happened...brakes on until I slid past the white line (at which I needed to turn otherwise I'd hit the traffic island) so I pulled the e-brake and completed the 90 degree turn. As pure luck would have it, no cars were going through the intersection at the time...but I saw on the other side of the road a BMW went straight into the traffic light on the island. All of this happening under 30km/h...

I come back 5 mins later as I just dropped someone off and theres another collision in the same right turn lane I skidded on with 2 cars facing the opposite direction.

Snow = Fun and very predictable...slides and drifts are very controllable. I have no problems driving it in the snow even with mediocre winter tires...although I find it a bit too easy to get the tail end out for the average driver.

Ice =

I just got home from tonight's drive through major Mac/highway 7 across the city. I'm running WS70s and they were awesome. I was more stable in ice with these tires than than the last time it snowed. I had no issues with grip off a stop or coming to a stop. Extremely pleased with how she drove tonight.

I'm sure glad I don't have to drive where you drive.

It's only a matter of time before you crash.

Ice storm? No problem going around the neighbourhood. Apparently I might crash with WS70'S.

I assume you make all these type of comments in the interests of road safety - so why don't you just leave your frs in the garage over winter as it's so sh*tty, and keep us all safer on the roads?

I swear we haven't had a December like this since I was maybe 10 years old. Municipalities don't have the capacity to clean this stuff up like they used to back when this weather was the norm.

Getting a lot of great experience with the BRZ early on, which is good because I didn't drive in the winter at all last year.

I've made it though snow and ice that I'd be nervous in with my old Accord or parent's CRV. Haven't gotten stuck, and I'm getting used to how to get the most out of the available traction in this car.

Because it's a BRZ?

I can drive this car easily in winter. Actually controlling skids in this car is also easy, in fact my 17 year old niece who drove in snow got the first time today and doesn't drive stick had no trouble, although she's an exceptionally talented driver.

My beef is with anybody who claims this car is a competent winter car. It isn't. It's awful. Fun but awful.
