I also learned the hard way with a Tilton 3 disk 5-1/4" clutch with a 5 pound flywheel on my Porsche race car. If I didn't do it properly it felt like I was going to destroy the car it shook so hard.
That clutch made SO much noise too! Freaked me out the first time I fired the car up. Sounded like rocks in a dryer. |

My brother had a Exedy Stage 2 clutch and ACT flywheel in his Evo X and let me tell you, it was really stiff to the point where if I wasn't used to driving it, it would cause a muscle spasm in my leg, and I'd like to try and avoid a clutch stiff to the point if possible.

Its going to he hard to get a clutch that will hold the power without sacrificing some comfortability.
We have had great success with the CM stuff from various platforms. That and the customer service that luis and his guys provide, you cannot find any where else. We have the twin disc in our car with a restrictor valve to slowly release the fork. It makes it easier to drive on but it's still a twin disc. |

I have had both, yes the Exedy Twin disk is much heavier and less forgiving than the FX400. Yes the FX400 is heavier than stock and it grabs different. But once you adjust to it, it is a great clutch. In fact I prefer it over the stock. My left foot has just learned to move smooth and smaller. I never did master the twin disk. I mean it was driveable, but I never could drive the car smooth without concentration on what I was doing with my left foot. That's not good to me, cause after some time your left foot should just be on muscle memory.

Tut, if you don't mind me asking. What was the reason you decided to let the BRZ go and what car(s) are piquing your interest now? Just curious.

To date I see no reason to go with the more expensive CM. Like Tut said, the ACT 6 puck was easier to engage and use than my CM FX300/350 full face. Also, the pressure plate is the same for FX30/350 to FX400 so the pedal pressure will be the same. I am upgrading the disc to the 6 puck FX400 with the new turbo kit so wish me luck.... Quote:
Look at my build thread last few pages and/or Tut sales thread.

Boredom and opportunity combined. I was finished with what I wanted to do with the BRZ and the opportunity to purchase a very rare BMW E92 M3 presented itself, so I pulled off both deals in less than a week.

I was looking at used M3's, but they were out of my price range. I'll have spent more on my BRZ by the time I'm done, but it will have been gradually.
M previous car was a tricked out 08 135i, and I miss the quality and luxury and power. That's why 'm going FI on my BRZ. I'll probably own another BMW in the future though. |
