Since race clutches grab so suddenly, they don't spend any time slipping, so they tend to not make as much heat.

Street clutch usually has a fully round clutch disk and operates much more like the stock clutch, easier to drive, but can't handle huge torque. Street clutches slip more when smoothly taking off so they make more heat. If overpowered by torque, they slip and make LOTS of heat.

From what I've gathered, our cars don't make that much torque even when FI, so aftermarket street clutches are OK for most FI unless you're going for BIG power.
im running the FX400 full face right now and taking off in 1st gear is exactly like what you explained. Being my first clutch upgrade i've ever experienced I thought something was wrong with my car at first but it definitely needs a higher rev to make the car move in first to prevent my car from shaking like its having a seizure. Took some getting used to thats for sure and I always felt like I was riding my clutch. Glad to know it wasnt just me who's experiencing this

I also learned the hard way with a Tilton 3 disk 5-1/4" clutch with a 5 pound flywheel on my Porsche race car. If I didn't do it properly it felt like I was going to destroy the car it shook so hard.

That clutch made SO much noise too! Freaked me out the first time I fired the car up. Sounded like rocks in a dryer.

My brother had a Exedy Stage 2 clutch and ACT flywheel in his Evo X and let me tell you, it was really stiff to the point where if I wasn't used to driving it, it would cause a muscle spasm in my leg, and I'd like to try and avoid a clutch stiff to the point if possible.

Its going to he hard to get a clutch that will hold the power without sacrificing some comfortability.

We have had great success with the CM stuff from various platforms. That and the customer service that luis and his guys provide, you cannot find any where else.

We have the twin disc in our car with a restrictor valve to slowly release the fork. It makes it easier to drive on but it's still a twin disc.

Would the CM FX400 be easier than the twin disc?

Stock clutch = finger pressure
Exedy stage 1 = 2x pressure (still really light)
Fx300 = really freakin stiff

I assume fx400 is even worse.
The Clutchmasters definitely take more pedal pressure then the equivalent ACT clutch. My ACT 6 puck clutch pedal feel is much closer to OEM than a Clutchmasters setup.

Definitely nothing wrong with the CM stuff. I have just had great luck with ACT setups on previous cars, and my 6 puck clutch held up great. I wonder which setup @Sportsguy83 would go with if he had it to do again.

I have had both, yes the Exedy Twin disk is much heavier and less forgiving than the FX400. Yes the FX400 is heavier than stock and it grabs different. But once you adjust to it, it is a great clutch. In fact I prefer it over the stock. My left foot has just learned to move smooth and smaller.

I never did master the twin disk. I mean it was driveable, but I never could drive the car smooth without concentration on what I was doing with my left foot. That's not good to me, cause after some time your left foot should just be on muscle memory.

Just curious.

To date I see no reason to go with the more expensive CM. Like Tut said, the ACT 6 puck was easier to engage and use than my CM FX300/350 full face.

Also, the pressure plate is the same for FX30/350 to FX400 so the pedal pressure will be the same.

I am upgrading the disc to the 6 puck FX400 with the new turbo kit so wish me luck....

Just curious.

Look at my build thread last few pages and/or Tut sales thread.

Boredom and opportunity combined. I was finished with what I wanted to do with the BRZ and the opportunity to purchase a very rare BMW E92 M3 presented itself, so I pulled off both deals in less than a week.

I was looking at used M3's, but they were out of my price range. I'll have spent more on my BRZ by the time I'm done, but it will have been gradually.

M previous car was a tricked out 08 135i, and I miss the quality and luxury and power. That's why 'm going FI on my BRZ.

I'll probably own another BMW in the future though.
