If you're not already sliding with the caution lights activating, then yes. Otherwise you have to wait until you're done sliding. Just hold the TC button down for about 3 seconds solid, maybe a fraction or two longer. It's perfect for deep snow. Your car won't go flying all over the place unless you have summer tires on. haha

I have used it on the fly a bunch. Once I'm off the highway on the offramp I'll hit the button. It's one of those things where it's easier to have fun with it off, but the responsibility is all on you. Getting used to the BRZ's fun factor, I didn't turn it off much. Plus you have to have predictable tires. When I had to replace my rear tire with all-seasons after a bad puncture in the stock tire, the car was retarded to drive. Even the stock tires were better. I'm waiting for Spring when I get Michelin Pilot Super Sports before I go all out with my driving again.

Still waiting for SoA to replace my BRZ (should be in the next few weeks I think, nothing firm though), but in the meantime I gotta a little Xmas present to myself from the brown Santa elves! Thanks @FT-86 SpeedFactory for the timely delivery, great packaging, and the Laffy Taffy!

I look a "mile" ahead, zipper-pattern with traffic, expect a collision from every side street, see myself as a motorcycle since my car is small, and sit with my back straight up for best view of the road. I've always tried applying "racer technique" to my daily driving since I don't trust most people on the road. This includes knowing when to hit the brakes and switch lanes when things feel like they're going to get hairy. I analyze each vehicle around me, anticipating the likelihood of them doing something uncontrolled (I don't trust large vans or Escalades). I don't hangout in the right lane unless I'm going that slow or turning immediately right. I'm almost nice about letting people through to help prevent accidents from someone forcing their way through. I've learned a lot in my time. hahaha

You're right, though, generally I wouldn't recommend it due to liability. I would feel TERRIBLE if I was irresponsible and caused a bad accident because of having everything off where it could have been prevented by keeping everything on. Since it's been raining on top of this ice and cooling down I have kept it on more often. With dry snow I keep it off, though.

Wow! If I had to work that hard at driving I'd trade in my cars for skateboards.

Hardwired my 9500xi today. Took longer than I would've liked as it was my first time taking apart so much on this car, but it came out perfect.

Part of the fun in this car is working hard to drive it!

What @chanomatik is talking about just becomes second nature at some point. I don't drive in snow (yay socal!) but I drive very much the same way. Good call likening it to being on a motorcycle. One of my traffic school instructors (yeah, I play by most rules, but not always that speed one) said he wished it was a requirement to learn to ride a motorcycle. That way, we'd all be so much more aware of our surroundings. I totally agree.

If you don't drive like that in SoCal (esp anywhere near LA) you're gonna get wrecked. I drive the same way and try to avoid freeways. You've really got to keep an eye on people since they're basically allergic to turn signals and seem to love slopping over painted lines and randomly deciding to cut across three to four lanes of traffic at 45 degree angles. And they're always doing this while driving the worlds shittiest cars on balding all-seasons. On the three days a year when it rains you see people wrecked all over the place. It's like a joke.

Unstuck/reset the windows.

Seriously where did they do the winter/cold weather testing on this car? Guam?

Glad there's still a few of us who still know how to drive properly

I'm lucky: my dad grew up in England and worked for several years in Germany, and he basically taught me how to drive. I went to the instructor person like every kid and learned incredibly complex things like how to drive parallel to a curb at 4 mph, then my dad took over after I passed the driving test thing. Driving with dad was pretty overwhelming when I was first starting to drive ("Wait you want me to keep the car going straight while watching whats going on behind me in three mirrors? WHAT?"), but I learned a lot driving with him and going with him to car control clinics / autox.

I'd hate to think what I'd drive like (or if I'd be alive) today without having learned way more than was required about driving. The DMV licensing process is a complete joke and incredibly socially irresponsible. You'd think the state could afford to build some driver training facilities with a couple of porta-building classrooms and some empty tarmac so they could actually teach people how to drive: think how much we'd probably save in the long-run through reducing accidents!

Ah, now I understand. I avoid California at all costs.
