say you're driving down a busy road and some ass hat decides to cut you off extremely close and then has to brake quickly, and you have no time to stop and therefore run into the back of him

now you have no witnesses because nobody wanted to stop and help you out

now it turns out buddy is some kind of rich doctor and he is now injured from the accident and your 1 million dollar coverage doesn't cover his costs

guess what?, you're at fault because you hit him even though it was completely his fault and it's your word against his.. did the couple hundred dollars you saved over the years make that 1 million dollar liability worth it?

driving in my city i've had a couple people do exactly that same thing to me before.. i was just lucky they didn't have to brake fast or i would have ended up in the back of them
Idiots are everywhere and there's nothing you can do to stop them
and it's always better to be safe than sorry
My insurance just paid for itself this whole year & halfway into next when I got rear ended 2 weeks ago. $3k in damages to my car alone & I was not at fault. I also have had up to $30/day ($900 max) rental coverage too. Deductible waived.

And that was just a minor fender bender.

It was more back in 2007 when a driver I could not see thanks to an illegally parked vehicle struck me as I was turning left onto the back street. I was declared at fault & my car's damages alone was well over $5k as it completely took off the right front end & damaged the other guy completely down his truck's right side. 25mph collision & probably well over $10k I was at fault for causing not to mention that my car was in the shop a full 30 days & I had a rental that entire time. Insurance paid for itself for that up to this year.

Thankfully I've never injured or been injured in any accident, otherwise that $300k personal liability ($100k/$300k) would come into effect.

If I was in the hypothetical situation you described, I would have been on the phone to the cops immediately (first one to report is often treated initially as the victim) & then there'd be an officer to take statements & such. If he believed you, it'd be a strong case in your insurance company's favor to get damages from rich guy's insurance (or him if he's so rich that he's self-insured).

That very scenario is why I'm considering a dash cam. With something like that, it becomes evidence supported by your testimony & it's no longer your word vs his, but your word corroborating evidence that he was the reckless one.

Insurance is good stuff to have & even one minor accident can cause your policy to pay for itself many times over for quite a while.

This isn't a scam like a good deal of medical & dental insurance (especially dental unless you have existing problems that are ongoing & expensive such as crowns & caps), but pretty straight forward, direct & useful.

I carry a $1k comprehensive deductible & a $500 collision deductible b/c the most likely auto accident I'm likely to be in is a collision with another vehicle.

And why I carry $100k/$300k personal liability is that unlike my past subarus, I'm unlikely to have more than one passenger with me, so the risk of others getting hurt (on my end) is now lower. I carry $50k loss liability b/c it splits the difference between the expensive cars that I might hit & all the mexi-trash, already damaged beaters still out there with no fenders, or bumpers or driving with full damage. If I lived in Scottsdale I'd up that to $100k b/c folks living there drive more expensive cars.

But my policy covers me well & unlike some here, I don't consider it to be a waste. It has saved my tail financially both when I've been at fault & when I haven't. And it means I don't have to hassle with a hostile insurance company (the other guy's), b/c even when I'm at fault, USAA is there to make sure they pay out only what needs to be paid out, & keeps me away from direct harassment if there's a dispute.

You're in Canada so you can't buy from Pemco. So you know, my deceased wife was a member of the National Educational Association and had special discounts through her union. Regardless of the discounts they are a great company that's always treated us very well.

And no it is no insured as a recreational vehicle.

I do appreciate the "old timer" reference, but no that's annual cost. I can't really believe it either especially, when you consider that the other car on the policy is an 02 Toyota MR2 Spyder! My total annual premium is $890. You need to give Pemco a call.

Well, I'll be danged!

* I'm 70 years old
* Married
* 2 cars and a house covered with USAA
* Been with USAA for over 45 years
* I have Liability/personal injury/underinsured motorist/comprehensive and collision
* $500 deductable
* Live in Washington (maybe Puyallup is a high risk area - with all the Bubbas and their jacked up trucks)
* no tickets or claims in the last 10 years
* $65/month for the FR-S

Well, since my wife is also a member of NEA, maybe I should look into Pemco .... ??

Give them a call. My wife was also a member of WEA and the discounts may have come through them. If your wife is a NEA member she's probably a WEA member as well. If you talk to Pemco try both. Good luck! Let me know how you do.

Living in newark, de (suburbia)
Geico
1 at fault accident
1 hit & run claim
1 vandalism claim
$388 per month

My new premium with Geico would be $350 per month

Got online quotes from all of the other big agencies and theyre all higher than what I pay now

Progressives online quote was about $305 per month. I need to decide by the end of this week, but I guess Ill be switching to them.

Wondering if a defensive driving course will help me out a lot...i need something lol

I love the area and I dont really want to drive 30+ minutes to work every day so I guess im stuck with it.

I just renewed with Geico for $335 a month. Cheaper than it was but still way too expensive.
