Well. That part won't work for what I want to do either. It works great for a standard alarm but once the engine is started you are screwed. I think there is a CAN id in there that is looking for a running engine (engine speed rpm maybe) and once it sees this it ignores input. I am currently trying to find out what that id is so I can shut it off. The sense doors will always work and could be a problem when you are in the car with the doors locked. Someone might be able to grab the door handle and get into the car. If anyone wants to help me find the CAN location I would appreciate it

I installed my smart start today.. Super easy install especially when you use the 1101t bypass. I think there were like 8 wires to hook up and no large gauge wires. Door locks are + so you need two relays for that. Clutch is + so you need a relay for that. And the push to start button needs a - trigger so I relayed the + starter wire to give the ground signal. Everything works. Door locks and trunk work while the car is running but ONLY through the phone. I am still trying to find a way to hack the BCM. This will at least keep me happy now that it's cold out. If anyone has any questions how I did it let me know and I'll do a better write up on it.

I would appreciate seeing any and all details you wish to share about the remote start installation.

I used to work at a car stereo place. HiFi Buys if anyone remembers that store. Anyway, we had installers that would install remote starters and you would do it thru the factory keyfob but you needed a module to do so. If I remember correctly, the "lock" and "unlock" buttons had to be pushed at the same time to start the car. Then unlock would unlock the car so you could get in the car. Lock would lock the door while car was running. But would also "arm" the alarm connected to the remote start. If the door was opened without "disarming" the car alarm, the light would come on as the door is opened setting the alarm off and enabling the engine immobilizer. I would imagine that same technology is around. I'm looking for a remote start system for my car now. Cant find who I want to go with. I heard bad reviews on the viper and python android phone systems.

I am going to make a few phone calls tomorrow to verify but the best part about it is.... ITS ONLY $50!!! I'll let everyone know what I find out and I might do a DIY as well. Because it's a CANBUS alarm you really only have to tie in to 4 or 5 wires. STOKED!!!
The link I clicked says $259. Either the exchange rate is really bad or it's that expensive. Bummer, because I could really use a remote start but I'm probably not interested at that price.

You can get them for 50 but they won't work for a remote starter any way.

@ravenblackfrs all that is possible. Just not with our vehicles. The VW's have the whole can network figured out and yes they can make it work. Tech stream may be able to tap into some of this and I am ordering a cable to see what I can do but I am not holding my breath. What I have done works but it's not ideal. It'll get me through the winter and give me some more time to try different options. I'll make a write up as soon as I have a little more time.

I havent really looked into it in detail, but we might be able to retrofit one of these into our cars (owners of limited brz's with smartkeys). Just a thought.

http://www.toyotapart.com/PT398-03120.pdf

Cost is $300 though, so unless someone already has this part on hand and doesn't mind testing...

The smart start works as it should. There are a couple quirks. Because I used the 1011t the car starts fine. If someone were to smash the window and get in they could drive away. Once the car has been started there is NO way to shut it off without getting into the car and pressing the start/stop button. It will run until it runs out of gas. You can not shut the car down by using the app. When the car is started using the smart start the only way to unlock the car is by clicking the unlock button in the app. The key fob does. Not work. If you start the car with the app and your phone dies while you are walking out to your car you will be crawling in through the trunk.

These are all things I am trying to get around. It works just fine for the time being. It starts. And I can unlock the car from the phone when I am almost there.

I have been meaning to do something with an arduino. I haven't looked to see if someone has come out with a new bypass module that will fix all these issues. Even if someone comes up with a bypass module I am 99% sure you will still have to carry around a second fob and I don't want to do that. I don't mind the hick ups. It works great for what I am using it for. As soon as I hook up an arduino I'll do a diy and post the code. Just need to find the time.

Also. I never noticed the key hole in the drivers door. You can use the key to get in that way if something goes wrong. Just don't start it unless you know you can turn it off.
