Or worse, the technician think it's the same pump that he's been replacing and still causing a problem so he don't bother to change it out.

That theory is so dark, scary part is it can be true.

Doubt it, pretty straight forward job. Pays an hour to do. I could tell the physical differences by looking at both pumps. The cricket comes from within the pump assembly. The HPFP has two pieces, the base which contains the lifter, and the pump itself. The bulletin only calls for the replacement of the pump, which leaves the base and lifter untouched.

I saw the work order from my dealer and took them 3.5 hours. Maybe thats why it's job done right, I won't miss them that's for sure.

That actually might mean that it was the very first one your dealer's service department has performed. That's why they didn't know what to pay the tech. My first one paid 2.8 hours.

Also might mean that the job was performed before the revised pump came out on 10/28/13 (give or take a day, don't feel like looking it up). The revised bulletin now had labor time posted at one whopping hour.

Did anyone have a problem with a persistent smell of gas after they got their pump swapped?

The dealership says there's no leak, but it shouldn't smell like there's an open bucket of gas.

I'm pretty sure at least one FR-S caught fire from a botched fuel pump replacement. I'm trying to find the thread...

Funny there's a site dedicated to BRZ/FRS crashes/destruction.

I have one of the first FR-S's. I have a sound coming from the engine compartment. It sounds a bit like worn tappets on an OHV motor. It sounds like crickets, but doesn't have the high frequency chirp that youtube videos on the problem sound like. Is this a normal sound, or is it the same problem?

I got the new part number fuel pump. So far no crickets have returned after a few hundred miles. Extremely happy (finally).

I hope it lasts.

I saw that thread when it happened. The service manager and the tech said that a little spilt fuel could stink up the car for a few days, but it should dissipate over time. They were telling me this while we were standing in front of the engine bay with the hood open and a heavy smell of gas coming coming from it, which they acknowledged. It sounds like bullshit to me because when you spill a bit of gas when you're filling the tank, it doesn't smell like that for days. Today will be a week. And all this is after the fact that they said that the smell was gone before I picked it up.

I'm guessing that most people that had their pump replaced didn't have this issue or else there'd be far more complaints about it and the only post similar to mine is about a car burning to the ground. I have a longish drive later today and I'll see how it goes. If I don't notice a difference by tomorrow morning when I run some errands, I'm taking it back to the dealer in the afternoon. I already have a case through corporate and frankly, I'm surprised as hell that they had even bothered to send me a survey after having me wait 7.5 hours at the dealership with no loaner. I'm already not a happy camper and they're going to need to make this right. I need to be compensated for the 3 hours/150 miles worth of traveling because they screwed it up at the very least.

That's not crickets. This must be your first engine with direct injection. That's normal.
