scion started off as a youth oriented brand...then all the old people found out about that its really a toyota with toyota reliablility for a much cheaper price. I see teens and college age kids in the tc but its the older prople and retirees driving xa,xd,xb. hell even alot of the repair men around here have given up on trucks and now use the new xb to haul around their stuff

Hmm.. Lexus Is300, Toyota Altezza ring any bells?

Actually, I take back what I said. It seems Scion is trying to break ties with Toyota, so Toyota would have to be stupid to invest money into them.

Carry on.

Isn't Altezza exclusive to Japan? I'm talking about the rest of the world not just Japan. Lexus have established in Japan since 2006. After existence of Lexus in Japan, the Altezza nameplate was gone.

I don't why Toyota bother putting 3 models + yet-to-come iQ in the lineup. They need to expand lineup, but not with FT-86. T-Bat concept truck can do good as a Scion.

Technically IS300 and Altezza is same. Of course there are tons of different options & other stuff, but it all come down to, it's a same chassis.

Yeah. You're right, it's just a rebadge and more feature. However, I was talking about the nameplate.

It would be like porsche introducing a mini-van. Scion on the other hand IS a youth oriented name and the 86 would fit in very well with the crowd they are trying to target with this car.

Think about they average people that walk into a Toyota dealership vs a Scion dealership... it seems that the people more likely to by a car along the lines of the 86 would be at Scion.

And why is it that people are so intent on guess from a past bucket of names for this car? I think it is going to be something completely new.
Don't get your panties in a bunch, scion has jack shit either (don't even bother to mention the tC). Furthermore, see that part in bold? It's the reason WHY Toyota needs it more. Not to mention, they have the HISTORY to go along with it. Most people who will actually buy this car around the world remember and revere the Supra, the MR-2, Celica, Corolla Levin, Starlet GT, Chasers V, Soarer etc... they were all Toyotas.. none were scions.

Misfit? Are you one of those that think Toyota should only produce dull mobiles? Take a long walk off a short pier.

I don't mind them naming something new, but it will not be a scion. Scions move less than 300k units a year TOTAL, it is not a brand designed to be mass market. Furthermore, $20k is about the maximum you'd pay for a base scion, the FT-86 will not undercut the $20k mark, I can guarantee you that (and I'd rather they not cut the corners to make it possible either)

p.s. Scion dealerships ARE Toyota dealerships.

The Altezza was also a "spiritual successor" to the AE86

Yup, But it only existed in both forms because
a) Lexus didn't exist in Japan and
b) Toyota needed a car to bring more youth to the lexus brand and compete with the 3 series.

No, I didn't bring it up. I just stated, I don't see Toyota's name anymore in racing world (my racing world news). I never stated anything bout Toyota in NASCAR sux. Someone said NASCAR, so I just googled around and only saw some dude w Impala have been the champion for few years and didn't see anything bout Toyota.

As for Toyota F1... I think it was Kamui Kobayashi was the driver wasn't it?

I'm not sure, but it's true, next gen IS should ride on FT-86 platform.

Tsuchiya Keiichi said that Altezza cannot be "spiritual successor" of the AE86.

But iirc no one in that engineering claim that Altezza was spiritual successor of AE86. Yes, Altezza design and engineering was led by Mr. Katayama (can't remember the first name) who help design original AE86 project (also help design the MKIV Supra). Just people assumed that it was spiritual successor of AE86 cuz of Mr. Katayama, but I don't remember hearing/reading Mr. Katayama saying that Altezza is spiritual successor of AE86. I stand to be correct.
