There's nothing quite like the pangs of satisfaction when I find the root cause of an issue. Although one has to beg why oh why did someone set the grass on fire under a car? Fuel leak? Prank? I know people were replacing HPFPs due to the crickets and yes, as with any pump, if installed incorrectly will leak and thus you have fuel spray in a hot engine bay which completes all three of the fire triangle. Let's hope the other thread populates with more concrete information. I highly doubt FRS/BRZ/GT86s are spontaneously combusting in their virgin forms. One can only hope - I plan on getting a fun car next year and this car is high on the list...

I was actually there and his car was by a hose next to where I pitted. It wasn't a bad fire that burnt down a car but it seems like there was some smoke coming out of the engine bay. Didn't talk to him because he seemed pretty pissed.

Another scenario where grass can start a fire is the car goes off track, dry grass gets kicked up and packed above the hot brake parts and ignites.

Hot brakes and exhaust over/on dry grass. The cases I've seen/heard about have all been track incidents where a car pulled off due to failure or after wrecking (or parked on a grass paddock). I've set a small amount of grass on fire at Sebring before when I parked after a session in the grass area of the paddock during a drought.. oops!

Korean guy on youtube video Elemental Tuning Visconti tuned WolfpackS2K This one. There may be more. I remember a picture of a BRZ that was totally burned late last year but do not know the story behind it. Still this is not something that is inherent to these models. |

So don't get HPFP replaced unless the dealer has done it before?

I was thinking fire as in fire with yellow flames and such. From what you say, it sounds a lot more like lots of smoke (unless this guy drove over a hay stack?). If that were me, I would've crapped a brick whilst running for an extinguisher.

Low humidity days, especially in areas that are very dry due to little rain, are even worse for this. If you've ever seen a red flag warning in the weather report, that is what they are warning about, the high possibility of wildfires in grassy areas that propagate rapidly.

The only track I've been to and driven on was Mosport up here but we parked on tarmac or gravel and it was for the MR2 club meet so it wasn't a full on race event, just people enjoying their cars without any real racing. The things I learn on the intarwebs...

ICE cars never catch fire. Only EVs do. 'Cause battery packs. Everyone knows that.
