I will be doing full flex fuel on his next tune. As well as some other little things through the race rom maps. I got the idea for the piping from the JDL twin scroll set up. I would really like to see one of those in person to see how they perform.

Yes. There are not a hundreds of different maps, several race rom maps are set up so that it can trim or add fuel, timing, boost accordingly to what its actual percentage is.

Great to hear. That's the only way I'd consider corn.
For me, a true road car is pump only, for now. That is just an opinion. Untill corn is everywhere... 10 years? ![]() Myself being pump fuel or bust. It might be hard to justify. Basically, just for that (Hey they have corn, lets fillup some extra Powah). Then let that painfree ECU math happen live =Sweet. And that got off topic. So anyways, Hit em with that flex ![]() I'm aware of some of the abilities. Can you spill some of your plans here.

We are planning on doing just the typical stuff that has already been done. Do to the lack of inputs and outputs of the factory ecu we can only do so much.

Are any of the people building FA20's particularly well known for engineering/engine building, or are they just screwing together a bunch of aftermarket parts?

Engine has already been engineered and fully vetted by Subaru. The screwed together parts are duplicates of the vetted engine parts but of a higher grade and quality to withstand FI which wasn't cost prohibitive to be done on a mass produced 25k car,....so yah we are just bolting on a bunch of aftermarket parts.

that sounds like somebody who's never actually owned a car with a built motor, let alone built one.
it's never that easy. if it can go wrong, it will, and the parts dont just 'snap together'. |

This is a pretty good series for people wondering what is involved in assembling a boxer. I wouldn't trust just any shop to know what the hell they're doing. I've heard horror stories about one of the local shops taking months to build an engine, then the customer going through multiple engines before they finally gave up and switched shops. Best to go with a specialist with a GREAT reputation than piss away thousands on potential repeat catastrophic failures.

There is a lot more to engine building than what most shops have the capabilities of handling, which is why most shops farm out their engine builds. All of our engines are assembled in house by our own engine builder. He came from NASCAR cup car engine building. We are known world wide for our engine program in the VQ platform and bring this same experience to the FA20 platform. The one thing we are not however, is the cheapest. Unfortunately in the engine building game, you get what you pay for. Not here to dog other companies as we have not seen their specific work first hand but we have seen plenty of other shops motors and how well they do and do not hold up on the Dyno and on track. The FA20 motor is not the easiest motor to work with, make sure whatever shop you chose has the proper tools to measure and assemble this and any motor. If they use plastigauge, steer clear lol. I wouldn't let just anyone tackle this motor build. But when people do, we have no problem building anyone's second built motor.

I really need to see the long term reliability of these built motors at 400+. Still I think the knowledge of this motor and its in and outs is going to boom in the next few months. Then again things are going slow, we still dont have any data for head work/valve springs exc or cams.

12,000+ miles at 360whp which is over 400hp at the crank and no issues? Is that not long term enough?
