C & D is just a bunch of BMW fanboys...I probably give them the least attention when it comes to the car mags. Their editors are a bunch of fogeys anyway.

I get your point, still, I appreciate automotive journalists pointing out shortcomings of things that may or may not be relevant to the buyer - you may not see the need for some practicality in a Viper (golf bags?) but you probably aren't a prospective buyer - hence your criticism of C&D is just as 'trivial'.

What shocked me was the 0-60 time of 6 seconds flat. C&D do have fast drivers and launch their cars in such an aggressive, abusive manner it'd be irresponsible for an owner to mimic but still.. that's a 1 second difference between them and the rest!
Calm down over there. Those are not official test numbers, it's what Car and Driver "estimates".

And I'll take Car and Driver's reviews over any other car magazine's. Seems like most rags these days, like Motortrend and especially Road & Track, seem to be on some sort of environmental crusade.

I recall an article from some time ago (Motor Trend? Inside Line?) that discussed the procedure for data acquisition and made several jabs at C&D and their aggressive approach of flogging the hell outta the car. It was then discussed on Vortex's The Car Lounge and some posters from the automotive industry confirmed/remarked about C&D practices. It could be BS but C&D consistently post times faster, regardless of vehicle or test location, then most all other journalists.

You can try searching Vortex for the thread but the search function is a bit screwy over there. As well, you'll want to check the archived section because this could've been 3-5 years ago.

So what if they do? People want to know what the car's capable of. And usually if they go to extremes in getting those times they state as much.

I've done countless high rpm clutch drops in my time as a driver (even past 7,000 rpm) and I've never had a clutch (or anything else) fail prematurely on me.

Nobody has done real 0-60 testing. There are not production cars yet...march april at the earliest. I still predict it will be 6.0 secs.

Fast enough for me....

guess your definition of premature is pretty loose. A normal clutch that is driven conservatively can last 100-150k miles. I find it hard to believe you can get decent life out of anything but a full racing clutch doing "countless" 7k rpm drops.

Ever owned an EVO? I've owned 2 and the first one's clutch died at 25k miles. And no I didn't race it or dump the clutch.

exactly why I won't be putting my own turbo in this car. Modern cars are complicated enough and unreliable as is so I won't be going and voiding any warranty or destroying my resale value.

personal choice though... If you have the cash to do it right and don't mind shelling out serious coin to do it again when it breaks it can be a very fun hobby. Just too rich for my blood nowadays.

Sad thing is, the only mods I has on the EVO were an intake and ECU flash.

Well a flash alone can add 75+ hp, enough to put undue stress on a clutch already strained close to its engineering limits. So it was a flashed Evo that got its clutch fried, there's your reason...
