I disagree with putting expensive wheels on cheap cars. I don't think that it's nearly as annoying as many make it out to be. People modify cars to their preferences, and if they like the original, higher quality, more expensive wheel options, so be it. I was running $3,000 Works on my $3,000 Accord, until about a month ago.

I did it because I liked the look of it, and I came to the conclusion years ago that quality parts are just flat out better than cheap stuff. I was working with the car I have, and chose to go down that path, rather than have a more expensive car that wasn't as modified, or had less expensive parts.

OP - Sorry to thread jack. Nice brakes.

ITT: Yet another person who doesn't like Rotas and feels the need to bitch about other peoples' decisions and judge them even more.

OP, brakes look great! I didn't know Baer was making a set.

FFS!! What does it matter ? Last time I checked people can do what ever they like to their own car. Don't approve? Too bad.

People put WAY too much emphasis on brand. This mentality reminds me of the people who endlessly speak negatively about Microsoft but don't really know anything about technology.

Who cares? It's not an expensive car.

Anyways, about the brakes...any specs?

yes, of course paying 3x the price to accomplish the exact same goal is the perfect example of sound logic.

people buy expensive wheels for the same reason they conspicuously consume anything else, because they want other people to think they have money.

it's a wheel. they need to be round and not break. anything beyond that is conspicuous consumption, and frankly kinda tacky to those who are smart enough not to engage in such nonsense.

BS. They're not the same.

I buy quality wheels, because they are exactly that.

I'm not preparing to risk my life on a wheel of proven sub-par quality, to save some money.

you can't possibly say with a straight face that paying $3k for a set of wheels somehow makes you safer than the guy who paid a third of the price for what is functionally the exact same thing, as if it's impossible to build a wheel that won't self-destruct for less. there are standards and what not that apply to these things, it's a regulated business.

it's not my job to pull you back to reason, just enjoy them i guess. someone's gotta be the sucker...

They don't have to be more expensive. In the last 3 months I've bought the following
17x7.5 se37k for $800
17x7.5 te37 for $1000
17x8 se37k for $950
16x7 SSR Type C for $650

As for being functionally the same, they absolutely are not. All the above rims are strong, and are 15lbs or less. The SSR's are 12lbs.

Show me a rota (or other fake wheel) that is forged and 15lbs.

I paid a lot more for my Meisters. But I don't see that I'm a sucker for doing so. They're custom made. Come with a 3 year warranty.

You're the sucker for believing they are functionally the same.

Also, anyone that thinks Chinese manufacturing is regulated is dreaming.

Some is.

Most isn't. They will stamp JWL certs on shit all day, it doesn't mean it is.

I used to import a lot of stuff from cheap manufacturers. Wholesalers are buying fake wheels for $50 or less, then marking up 400% and selling to market. Who is the sucker now?

Go have a look on alibaba if you don't believe me.

Rota PR has done an excellent job over the last few years, convincing people that are a a reputable brand.
