I like this thread. I made a thread simular to this on NASIOC.
I miss the power that I had on my 2009 stage 2 WRX, but I don't miss the bad MPG and random interior rattles. Build quality on the BRZ is much better than the WRX. Seats are superior too.

Not really a switch, or even the same way as this thread, but I just got an 04 sti and it's great. I love it already but the brz has something about it though that just feels right

As a former Sti owner, I had tons of fun with the car with lot of mods. In the end, you can't really substitute weight. After many track days and autox, you began to notice how heavy the car is, which causes slower following lap times, brake fade, and overall balance. It was a great 3 lap vehicle. It took lot of modifications and extremely high spring rate for car to stay flat, even with rollcage and racing seats. Like someone mentioned, its an easy beginners car that's fast. But doesn't necessary mean you are fast.

So I sold the Sti and started look for S2000, then the BRZ came along.

Man it is funny to read this about the Subaru WRX STi. I am driving a 1997 JDM STi in Okinawa, Japan right now and this thing is a beast. I can tell you that the STi and EVO will always trump a heavy RWD or FWD. AWD for the win…

I owned a 1991 300ZX TT with 550HP and 602TQ to the rear wheels and it had almost every mod that you can think of (brakes/suspension/cooling/etc) but when I went to the track it just underperformed. It would push into the corners and I would loose copious amounts of speed trying to stabilize it upon entry and exit. It obviously could accelerate quite fast but the lack of cornering prowess ultimately led to me selling it.

After that I bought a 2004 EVO VIII. I loved that car. I only sold the EVO because of my job being moved overseas for the past 7 years. I love the 97' STi and if I could bring it back if I could.

My BRZ is with Clint and the Heuberger guys waiting on my arrival back to the US. I cannot wait to see how it performs compared to the past cars that I have owned.

I think that the BRZ will be a classic in the same way the old Z cars are. I would love nothing more to own either a 240Z or 260Z from the 70's. I cannot explain why but as you stated you feel about the BRZ I am just drawn to those old cars. The same can be said for how I feel about the new BRZ and GT86, sorry not so much for me with the FRS (FRS lacks too many creature comforts that I have come to expect from newer cars).

I look forward to the journey that my BRZ will take me on. Hopefully it is just as reliable as every other Subaru I have owned.

97 sti is different beast from 05 sti. over 300 lbs difference. 90's are the golden era for AWD vehicle.

Sold my 2011 STI for the 86 and no regrets. STI had a built motor, cooling suspension etc...

I find it weird that some are saying they miss the power. It's like the FI section is invisible or something

Been driving the Evo X for 5+ years now. I still miss my 03 Evo 8 everyday...

I was actually thinking of trading or selling the X to get a Evo IX SE 5spd. The sharp steering, bare interior, throttle cable was just too good.

I've driven and rode in a lot of cars over the years. The Evo 8/9s are still my favorite.

While I feel my next is likely a GTR ( in another year or 2, just bought the BRZ 2 months ago ). I'm always thinking about getting another Evo 8/9 or possibly the GC8 Impreza and swapping in an STi motor :o.
