Idling Issue

Just started today. Yesterday I had to drive home through nearly flooded highway. Not sure if that could've cause this issue, but here's what's happening.

My car is idling at 2000+ rpm's when clutch is in and car is rolling. Taking the shifter out of gear and releasing the clutch sometimes brings the idle back down. This high idle is happening about 80% of the time starting today.

I've read about the idle dip, but I did not find any information about a high 2000+ idle. I should also say that I recorded this issue just now. My car was rolling idle above 2000 rpm for nearly 20 seconds. I had hit the end of the parking lot so I had to turn my car and the idle dropped back to normal. Who knows how much longer it would've been stuck up there.

Any suggestions? Is this a known issue? What damage can it cause my car?

Do you reckon any water got up into the engine compartment? If so, has it dried out good?

I'd take it up on the freeway and give it a good run to warm up/dry out the engine real good.

If that didn't settle it down, you may consider disconnecting the battery for a few minutes (then hook it back up ... ) to see if the idle will re-set.

Or take it into a dealer ....and they will most likely tell you "that's normal" ....

I hope you get it settled down.

PS - I don't believe that a high idle will cause any damage to the engine .... just to your nerves.
