High idling on new FR-S
My FR-S was manufactured in May 2013. I bought this in June 2013. After 1 month of ownership and 600-ish miles later, I discovered today that the car has high idling between 1200-1500 at start up when the engine is warmed up.
Most of what I read about you guys have low idling, never high idling. This is no good. Time to visit the dealership tomorrow morning... |

You're taking your car to the dealership because of a normal fast-idle condition on warm-up?

Look at your temp gauge. Your engine is only partially warmed up and that high idle is perfectly normal unless it stays that way for several minutes or is always that high. The ECU knows best, don't worry so much. The moment anything goes wrong you'll get a CEL. Until then, relax and enjoy the car. |

Well, first off, the engine isn't full warmed up as indicated by the temp gauge. And, additionally, I've owned a lot of cars, and I don't think of the ones made in the last decade or so at the very least would drop straight to regular idle immediately after start, even if the engine was fully-warmed up. There's always some period of time where it idles a little higher than usual.
Now if you had been driving it around town for 15 minutes. Stopped at a light. And it still idled like that. Then, yeah, you could have an idle problem. But the means to make that happen should throw a CEL if that were the case. |

remember temp gauge doesn't mean the car is fully warmed up. Oil warms up slower than coolant. |

That looks perfectly normal to me. My BRZ still does the warm up idle even though the engine's already warm, but then after 5 seconds or so it drops back to low idle.

On a warmed engine, the idle still sits at around 1500rpms for over 30 seconds. Last edited by ndsleep612; 07-22-2013 at 11:28 AM. |
