The dreaded torque crater
So I was wondering, from those of you who have retuned your motors, what it took to correct the odd torque band and if you noticed a substantial difference. I just hit 3000 miles and was going to do an intake, header back exhaust, and a tune come spring. Is there any talk of a cam package for an N/A setup?

No need for an intake....the stock intake is excellent. Go with a full exhaust, headers all the way back, and a tune, then you will be good to go.

If anything, do a filter (I have TRD) and inlet hose. That keeps the stock box, has a better diameter than the stock hose, deletes the sound tube, and gives better sound and a little better performance at half the cost of an intake system.

Header + Tune has consistently eliminated the torque dip along with FI options. It's all over the forums and the dynos are listed.

the first part of your question has been answered over and over.
as for cams, just think about how much work you will have to do...for what gains? you can't just lift heads in this car, you HAVE to pull the motor, and IMO when pulling a subaru motor you should build it up at that point, just cams will be such a waste of money. |

With a good tune you can actually greatly reduce the torque dip. To completely eliminate it and get a bump in torque in the mid-range a set of headers is needed.
With headers and a tine, the car can really be transformed with more power throughout the entire rev-range. You can see what we did here on a stock exhaust car - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47586 |

The gay liberal media would have you believe this is what happened.
The torque dip is there by design. |
