Last time I went was for the tail light condensation and I went to a different dealer than the one that held my car hostage 22 days for the cel issue. I am so over dealers

22 days???!!! WTF?!

Well I'm not sure who's better off. I went in for the first time, since I bought the car back in July of '12. I went with all the TSB info printed out so I could, hopefully, get everything done in one visit. Well, the service advisor was nice, but the manager was some sort of part time magician or something. He looked at all the print outs and summarily dismissed all of them saying that he didn't feel I needed them. When I pressed the issue with the SA, the manager said that he couldn't see any sign of the symptoms.

But the cool dude at the parts counter threw in a couple of plastic cups and a cool '13 Subaru calendar for free when I bought 3 oil filters. Winning!!!

that was nice of them. I got nothing extra but some attitude a cup would have been stellar!
I threw cel first day I had it and it was a nightmare after that. I would drive down there once a week just to look at the car I was making payments on but couldn't drive.
Needless to say SOA took care of me.
The lot damage I got for the cricket "fix" was the last straw. So I don't mind taking stuff I can apart and fixing it or taking it to Pure where I know my car is treated right.

Wow, that sucks! At least SOA did take care of you.

I took my car in for a 7.5k service. Told them at check-in that my mirror is loose again since the last time they fixed it. When I got the car back, they said that they replaced the mirror setup once more, but I suspect that it'll come loose again sooner or later... and I'll probably bring it in once more yet again.

To confirm my suspicion, this is what the tech wrote on my receipt:

"Replaced the mirror mount base and rechecked. Ok at this time."

At this time... when will be the next time? =)

Did the same here. I also added a drop of Loctite to each screw just to make sure they stay tight. I'd rather spend $5 and 5 minutes to fix it myself than to have the dealership touch it.

I'll fix mine myself if it happens again. I didn't know you had to go under the hood to fix a mirror. I was not happy about that at all

I might even pick up an extra one just in case it happens again.
Well mine fell off again this time at the track during one of my sessions. Good thing a had a passenger with me who held the mirror from swinging around until I was able to pull in the pits. I did pick up an extra mounting kit last time it happened and had it in the glovebox so I was able to fix it before my next session. Checking if the mirror is secure will be on my checklist next time I tech the car for a track day.

Mine fell off two days ago while getting on the highway. As expected, the threads on the plate where completed stripped off.

I went to my Subaru dealer this morning to get it fixed. The first sign of trouble was the service rep who told me this is most unusual and is the first time he's ever seen such a thing.

Because I installed the auto-dimming mirror myself, he told me repair was not covered under warranty. I've got no idea how they figured that out but I expected to have to shell out cash. What I did not expect was the price they wanted to bill me for the parts: 180$! Labor not included.

To justify this price, the service rep told me that they cannot order only the adapter, they have to order the mirror AND the adapter together. I found this weird because on the order form there where clearly two parts: the mirror ($155) and the mount (25$).

What's more, they could only order the old adapter mount part (H501SSA040) instead of the new one (H501SSA041).

Anyway, I ordered the new part from subaruonlineparts.com. Hopefully this will solve my problem for at least a year!

I'd stay away from that dealership.

I can only speak for dealers operating under SOA (I think Canadian dealers might be, but not sure), but if you install the part yourself, the part is covered under warranty, the labor is not. I can see some argument that your installation may have been faulty, but this is a known parts issue so it should be covered.

There is absolutely no reason to replace the mirror. In some cases you may have to replace the entire adapter kit, but most failures only require replacement of the tab.

That's what I figured but the guy argued that it was not so. This incident plus the fact that a simple oil change was 120$ convinced me to go somewhere else!

My screw stripped within a couple of months. I never liked this adapter. It is a design flaw. I bought a traditional mirror clip, removed the mirror attachment point from the glass and put the generic one on. The homelink mirror doesn't need the adapter then. It has been rock solid ever since, and looks more factory now.

I just had the Subaru factory fix installed: the new adapter with the part number listed in this thread somewhere.

It works and the problems are all fixed.

I highly recommend you just have the updated adapter installed. Mine was covered by warranty: parts and labour paid by Subaru.
