I would rather not drop names just yet. I am still giving him the benefit of the doubt and reached out to him with new logs over the past few days. Asking him to correct them, and hoping he can get me in or at least get me a new map in the next week. If he is able to correct the problems and get it all straightened out, then great!

Depending on how he handles the situation, we shall see. He does not do remote tuning, so no concern with anyone on here getting him unless they live in colorado. I know of one other guy on here that has been tuned there and is actually suppose to be headed back to see him in the next week or so, if i am correct. Will probably touch base with him offline to see how things go. Might even ride up with him together....

Keep in mind, I am just trying to understand the tune, the logs and this whole process, not out to create a war against a tuner. Hope it does not appear this way. Problem is the tuner is a great guy, just maybe not the best business man? Not really sure? I am sure part is hi inexperience on this platform, as this is his first turbo 86. But at some point as a professional I would hope he would accept that its over his head, or just not his expertise and tell me that, refund my money and send me on my way.

I am a total noob at reading logs, I mean total. I know nothing. Ignore all the following that I say. I'm just posting this so people will tell me I'm wrong. I'm a masochist.

It looks like your car's learning table says it's adding a lot of timing, plateauing at 10.9 degrees of learned added timing. Then the knock correction comes in strong over large ranges, taking back timing it learned. That's a lot of added timing and a lot of taken timing.

It makes me think a few things. If it learned to add that much timing, that makes me think the tune was overly conservative on timing. If the car is then knocking, perhaps it learned on some good gas and then is knocking on some not so good gas. The base tune looks good, but it just lets the ECU go too far in adding timing. The number of degrees it can add is pretty large. 10.9 degrees positive seems a lot for the ECU to be adding on its own. The Advance Multiplier is sitting happy at 1, a very good thing. E85 quality can vary a lot.

So I would call the guy and ask him to lower the number of degrees that the ECU can learn to add. I would assume that this is an option. Maybe leave it at 6 degrees. Then if you get truly crappy E85, you'll be OK, and with the not-as-good stuff you have for this log, you'll actually be conservatively tuned, a few degrees off where it has been knocking.

And nothing I said here should be listened to. I'm just posting for shits and giggles.

Yep that knock correction should not be there. He has got to tune that out. I see early knock too which may be tip in knock.

Not being able to work out a tune with him does not take anything away from him.

Remember at the end of the day it is you shelling out money, you who would be sitting with a damaged motor if the knock grenades it. I was in a bit of similar situation as you. I wanted things to work out with my first tuner. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I waited about 3 months for him, but just got fed up with it and said "this is my car, the tune is the most important part of making power safely, so what am I doing with this guy when 3 months later the car still knocks like a motherf****"

He might be a great guy and might be genuinely doing all under his power to make your tune awesome, but maybe he has hit his limit of knowledge on tuning this car.

Good luck and I hope it all works out for you awesome really soon.

No, knock is fuel detonating when it shouldn't be. No aluminum is slamming into other aluminum.

educate yourself before speaking next time.

Looking at your logs with little knowledge here

Get a tuner or you will need a new engine soon

Tune is adding lot of timing and your are seeing -2 to -4 knock at WOT

Thats bad
