I never changed MT fluid, and gear changes gradually became much nicer past the 5000km mark. That said I still want to change mine but I can't seem to find anyone selling any of the recommended brands here (Motul, Pentosin, AMSOil).

I just ordered my Motul online. There are a few vendors on here that have some nice packages - like motor, tranny, differential oil packages where you buy all of the fluid for your car all at once and save money. I think they might even include other little things like filters and crush washers and things of that sort.

I've done my first oil change with mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30, and changed my tranny and differential fluid with motul Gear 300 75w-90. Instant change. Shifting is more smooth with nice clicks as opposed to semi-confident throws that felt notchy. It isnt from like bag of marbles to butter but its more of not really confident shifts to feeling more confident that its doing what its suppose to be doing. I think its worth doing. Oil feels just right and all is right with the world.

Shitting should still be smooth though. Don't forget.

Yes. Each should set the standard for the other.

So...
MOTUL 300 (75-90) or Redline MTL (75-90)

Just for clarity, the Redline MTL is 70W80. The Redline 75W90 is called MT-90. Having used the MT-90 and given the choice between that and Motul, I'd likely give the Motul a try. For cool/cold weather use, I'd probably consider the MTL.

I did redline MTL at about 1600 miles. Better than stock, still not great. The transmission stopped locking me out of 2nd gear when cold but it would just grind instead.
Put in Motul Gear300 at 5k. I won't be going back to Redline. The Motul is smoother. I'm back to being locked out of 2nd occasionally for the first mile or so, but I'll take that over the grinding. After the first mile when the car is cold, it almost acts like a manual transmission should... |
